Marvel at more than 40 original buildings, including homes, meetinghouses, a district school, country store, bank, working farm, three water-powered mills, and trade shops - all situated on more than 200 scenic acres. Visitors can meet heritage breed farm animals and interact

with authentically costumed staff. Mission: Old Sturbridge Village, a museum and learning resource of New England life, invites each visitor to find meaning, pleasure, relevance, and inspiration through the exploration of history.

“Revolutionary soldiers - Some on two legs, some on one, but all on their last; may their sons be as successful in supporting their liberties, as their fathers were in obtaining them.” - Rutland Herald, May 2, 1826

For Muster Day on September 5th, we will be honoring the service of Revolutionary War veterans. By the 1830s, many of the Revolutionary generation were passing away, and the younger population of the United States was becoming more conscious of the fact that the future of the country rested on them. Come see a recreated military funeral for Sturbridge veteran Captain Simeon Fiske, who left this world in 1840. We hope that this somber occasion will inspire us to think about how we can all be stewards of our nation’s future.

It's back-to-school season! 📚 By the 1830s, towns in New England (except Rhode Island) were required to have schools. Townships were typically divided into several districts, each covering approximately four square miles (give or take, depending on the town and the population). In a District School like the one now at Old Sturbridge Village, about 50 students, ranging in age from about 3 or 4 to 16, would share a single main room, with the youngest students typically seated in the front. The District School at Old Sturbridge Village (c. 1810) was originally located in Candia, New Hampshire, and still features the original desks, complete with carved drawings from generations of schoolchildren.

Whether your kids are already back to school or getting ready for the first day, this weekend is a great time to take an adventure back in time at Old Sturbridge Village. Up to two kids are admitted for FREE with the purchase of an adult or senior ticket through August 30. Learn more at https://www.osv.org/event/kids-free-august/
