We have an exciting progress update from our newest cohort of cake baking and decoration students.

These young women were admitted from last year’s waiting list, and they have finally had the opportunity to begin building a skill they can use to create a future for themselves.

For their very first wedding cake practical, they worked together to bake, layer, ice, and decorate a full wedding cake. Seeing them turn simple ingredients into something beautiful was more than just a class—it was a confidence boost and an important first step.

We’re excited to share a powerful story of community resilience from Tobu Village.

Together with the community, Unsilenced Voices established and continues to support a Village Savings and Loan initiative with three important goals:

Create a platform for ongoing domestic violence sensitization and peer support.
Expand financial access for rural women to start or grow their businesses.
Help families prepare for school fees and their children’s education ahead of the September school term.

The results from this initiative continue to inspire us.

During the 2025/2026 cycle, 70 members faithfully contributed to the savings group, pooling more than Le 65,000. The funds were then shared among members according to their individual savings.

But the story didn’t end there.

Just two days after the payout, momentum was already building. More than 100 members have now signed up for the new savings cycle.

This growth shows that women in Tobu Village are doing more than saving money. They are building confidence, increasing their financial independence, supporting one another, and creating stronger opportunities for their families.

What started as a small initiative is becoming an important part of building resilience throughout the village.

When women have access to resources, support, and opportunities, they can begin creating lasting change for themselves, their families, and their communities.

We’re excited to share a glimpse into the dedication happening at our Unsilenced Voices Skills & Empowerment Center.

Our hairdressing trainees have been working incredibly hard, pouring their hearts into the art of braiding. From practicing intricate styles on glue-less mannequin caps to working on human hair, they’re building the hands-on skills needed to master their craft.

Practicals often ran from early morning well into the night—a true test of patience, determination, and passion.

These young women aren’t just learning how to braid hair. They’re building confidence, developing a valuable trade, and gaining the skills they need to create a more independent future for themselves.

This is what transformation looks like: learning a skill from the ground up, embracing the challenges, and developing the grit to keep going until mastery.

FULL HANDS. FULL HEARTS. ❤️

As our trainees close out the school year, the intense rains brought a very real worry: how to keep food on the table.

Thanks to RIPPLEA and our generous donors, that worry was eased with a much-needed supply of rice. 🌾

Today, bags of rice were carefully measured, cup by cup, and distributed to every trainee present at the skills training center. What followed was pure joy—clapping, dancing, and heartfelt gratitude.

This was more than a rice distribution. It was a moment of celebration as our trainees close one chapter of learning and growth, leaving with full hands, full hearts, and hope for what comes next.

Among the many young women and girls whose lives are being transformed through your generosity, we'd love to introduce you to Theresa Mulai.

At just 14 years old, Theresa is the youngest trainee at our Skills Training Center.

She grew up in a rural village and never had the opportunity to attend school. After being sent away from home, she now lives with a relative in Bo City. As the daughter of a single mother struggling to provide, Theresa was seen as one more mouth to feed—and, sadly, became vulnerable to abuse.

Like so many of the young women we serve, Theresa is a survivor. She has endured more than any child ever should.

Today, however, her story is being rewritten.

At the center, Theresa is learning tailoring and discovering a passion for gara tie-dyeing. We've watched her grow from carefully mixing colors and creating intricate patterns to transforming ordinary fabric into beautiful garments—like the dress she's proudly wearing today.

Every piece she creates is more than fabric.

It is healing.

It is confidence.

It is hope.

For Theresa and every survivor who walks through our doors, this training center is more than a classroom. It is a safe place to heal, learn valuable skills, and begin building a future filled with dignity, independence, and opportunity.

This transformation is only possible because of compassionate supporters like you.

KUSH is devastating communities across Sierra Leone, with nearly every family feeling the impact of this growing epidemic. That's why Unsilenced Voices partnered with the Kush Recovery and Resilience Project (KRRP) to create a safe, judgment-free space where young people could learn, ask questions, and access life-saving support.

Together, we reached more than 66 women and men, raising awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, sharing recovery resources, and empowering participants to recognize the warning signs of addiction while supporting those around them. Most importantly, we broke the silence by creating a space where honest conversations could finally happen.

This is only the beginning. We remain committed to working alongside our partners to ensure vulnerable young people have ongoing access to education, support, and a pathway to recovery.
