We are celebrating our 14th year of outreach to wounded and PTSD veterans! Here are some pics from our great weekend in July. The event would not happen without the support of the LA Dodgers - thank you Ellen Harrigan and team - , Robert Ulrich, the Groundlings, Damon's Steakhouse and Colombo's Italian, and the Outreach Committee of St Michael and all Angels Church in Studio City. Special thanks to the actors that joined our circle this year: Chris Witaske (The Bear), Tony Cavalero (The Righteous Gemstones), Matt Barr (Walker: independence), Grant Harvey (American Animals) and Ross McCall (Band of Brothers).

See this photo? It's from our amazing NYC fall visit to the set of NEW AMSTERDAM with out wounded Marines/vets, hosted by star and buddy Ryan Eggold. And the empty director's chair? It's now been filled by Ryan himself. Join us in congratulating Ryan on directing tonight's episode, marking his episodic TV directorial debut - 10 PM EST NBC.

On Veteran’s Day, I want to share the story of this young Marine. He is the reason there is a SoldierCare Project. An IED may have taken Casey’s legs, but it did not take his remarkable spirit. The resultant PTSD may have taken the core of who he was, but it did not take his singular sense of dark humor. The impact blast may have taken and aged a vibrant brain, but it did not take away Casey’s control – choosing to take his own life when early Alzheimer’s revealed itself at 32. Sweet sleep brother. Casey hated being everyone’s hero, the dog and pony show for photos and feel good donations. He was just looking for where he fit into the world. He craved a space where he was free to be all of himself. He longed for authentic and present and real. And so the SoldierCare Project was born. Our first outreach to this one special Marine transformed into hundreds of Marines and vets and spouses, and we have been joined in the circle all these years later by remarkable, kind people who instinctually understand the outreach. Thank you to our most recent family Ryan Eggold, Blake Jenner, Whit Johnson and the cast of CYRANO for stepping up and continuing the legacy. Welcome home is an action, not a slogan.

The summer SoldierCare weekend was a great success - a new family of wounded Marines/vets was forged, with great spirit and connection. Here are some of the photos - from the Dodger game to a hilarious night at the famed Groundlings improv/sketch theatre to some memorable meals and a Hornblower cruise. Special thanks to actors Blake Jenner and Grant Harvey for lending your light, and a surprise visit from Portlandia's Fred Armisen!

Today we create a new circle of wounded and PTSD Marines/vets as they join us for SoldierCare this weekend. What started as a moment 13 years ago - watching news reports of the the first wounded being airlifted off battlefields - and putting politics aside, I asked myself what could I do? One vet who had lost a leg in Iraq and never had a honeymoon led to cold calling and asking friends so that we could host him here in LA. And the circle grew with more strangers offering kindness - not left or right or liberal or conservative, no litmus test for love of country or them and us - until here we are, all these years later, with the family now over 100 servicemen and women, creating life-changing friendships and remarkable moments. Watch this space the next few days, come stand with us in spirit.

On July 19-21, we will be hosting a brand new group of remarkable young wounded and PTSD Marines/vets for a great weekend in LA.

They are joining us from all over the country, and will be treated to a Dodger game first pitch, a brunch cruise, a performance of the world famous Groundlings sketch/improv theatre, and much more.

If you would like to join in circle, we are looking for gift cards for national chains to add to their welcome gift bags. DM me here for information!

Watch this space for photos and updates. It's our 12th year!

Please excuse the delay in posting a photo from Summer 2018 - there was a death in the family right after the event. It was a remarkable three days, with generous spirit and connection.

Thank you to Dodger manager legend Ned Colletti for always welcoming the guys with open arms. And thank you Robert Ulrich for bringing Blake Jenner ("American Animals"/"Glee") to meet and hang out. And the famed Groundlings improv company - where Melissa McCarthy and Will Ferrell got started - for embracing the joy these guys gave to you. This would not be possible without the generosity of Ellen Harrigan - who reached out ten years ago and created this space for us.
