Today we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.
On this Memorial Day, may we reflect with gratitude, cherish the freedoms we enjoy, and keep the families of our fallen heroes in our hearts. Their legacy lives on in the spirit of this nation. 🇺🇸

As we continue to learn to learn more about our veterans on Mission 59, Guardian Robert Orr shares some info about his veteran and their flight last week. Veteran James Boswood (Jim) 101 Army Airborne serving in Vietnam 1967-1968. Our day started in Okeechobee at 2:00am for the gauntlet east to the airport. Jim welcomed all conversation and was quick witted with all responses from his career path in Alaska to building a remote cabin in the woods. Robert says “I actually know someone from the North Pole which is awesome by the way.” The Vietnam Memorial was very emotional for James with one soldier from his company that gave his life so Mr. Boswood could come home and tell his story. We found that soldiers name on the wall and the moment was tragically humbling for us all. He fulfilled his mission to his fallen brother to remember him as a hero. Jim experienced 2 RPG strikes with the last medically ending his tour. A great husband and father but always an airborne soldier with the love for his country. Thank you Jim and welcome home Sir!

Every Honor Flight trip I am blessed to be on, I learn something new. Our Honor Flight tour guide on the gold bus on Mission 59 gave us some info on “Flags In”. This ceremony is held on the Thursday before Memorial Day (today) where the “Old Guard” places American Flags at every grave in Arlington National Cemetery. This year there will be more than 260,000 Flags In placed by 1,500 soldiers. It takes about 4 hours for the flags to be placed, 1 boot length, 1 flag, 1 act of respect.
The flags will remain in place until the day after Memorial Day where the “Flags Out” ceremony takes place by the “Old Guard” and they collect the flags from the graves and either retire the flag if needed or store them to be used again.

Now that our flight day has come and gone, and I had too many Bios that I didn’t have time to post, let’s hear about how the flight went for some of our Veteran/ Guardian duos.

Due to an illness there was a late change, guardian Paul Croy wasn’t able to officially meet his veteran for Mission 59, David Morris, in advance. As David no longer drives, Paul was privileged to provide door to door service for our entire day.
David is an Air Force Veteran (Sergeant, stationed in Thailand and the Philippines during the Vietnam War. He was a mechanic, servicing hydraulic control systems on the F4 Phantom). David’s brother Cpl. Gary K. Morris served in the First Cavalry, and was KIA on May 20, 1968 after just three months in country. David’s visit with his brother on the Wall was especially poignant. Thanks to our wonderful guide on the gold bus, I was able to capture what I think is a very cool shot of David at the base of the Air Force Memorial. I’m honored to have been able to take care of Sergeant Morris and make a new friend.

Sometimes we are able to eat at the actual location of Arlington Knights Of Columbus 2473 but when we aren’t able they are still there to support us. Thank you to everyone who came out to Iwo Jima memorial to set up, serve and clean up lunch for us. We appreciate you very much!
