FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pocono Recovery Outreach Partnership to Participate in Save a Life Day on September 24

Free overdose prevention resources and community outreach will be available at multiple locations throughout Monroe County

The Pocono Recovery Outreach Partnership (PROP) will participate in Save a Life Day on Thursday, September 24, 2026, joining communities across the region in raising awareness about overdose prevention, reducing stigma surrounding substance use disorder, and connecting residents with potentially lifesaving resources.

Throughout the day, PROP representatives and community partners will be available at several locations in Monroe County to provide information, education, and overdose prevention resources to members of the public.

Save a Life Day Locations and Times

- 701 Main Street — 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Monroe County Courthouse — 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Walmart — 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- East Stroudsburg University – Dansbury Commons 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Street2Feet Outreach Center — 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- The Salvation Army — 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Save a Life Day is designed to make overdose prevention resources easier to access while encouraging open conversations about substance use disorder and recovery. Community members are encouraged to stop by one of the participating locations, learn how they can respond during an overdose emergency, and find out about treatment, recovery, and support services available in the community.

Substance use disorder can affect individuals and families from every background. Having overdose prevention resources readily available—and knowing how to use them—can give someone another opportunity to seek treatment, enter recovery, and rebuild their life.

PROP works collaboratively with community organizations, treatment and recovery providers, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and other local partners to connect people affected by substance use with help and resources.

Everyone in the community is welcome to participate in Save a Life Day. No appointment is necessary.

Pennsylvanians have each other’s backs. That’s why we carry naloxone. It can reverse an opioid overdose—but it only works if someone else is there to use it.

Tomorrow, September 24, is Save a Life Day, and free naloxone will be available at more than 230 locations across Pennsylvania—including 10 Pennsylvania Department of Health State Health Centers.

Much of the naloxone distributed tomorrow is provided through our Overdose Prevention Program, which offers free naloxone to Pennsylvanians year-round.

Last year, Pennsylvania distributed more than 10,700 doses of naloxone on Save a Life Day, ranking #3 in the nation. This year, let’s show up for each other again.

Carry naloxone. You never know whose life you might save. Visit the link in the comments to find a participating location near you where you can pick up free naloxone tomorrow.

A proclamation can't erase loss, but it can reaffirm a shared commitment to action. Today's proclamation of Pennsylvania Overdose Awareness Day reflects the Commonwealth's ongoing commitment to raising awareness, preventing overdose, expanding access to treatment and recovery, and supporting Pennsylvanians affected by substance use disorder. 💜
