We understand that roadway work in the downtown can be frustrating, and we appreciate everyone’s patience during this short-term infrastructure project on N 6th Street.
To clarify some misinformation circulating online, businesses along N 6th Street and Main Street have remained open and accessible throughout construction. Public Works staff have been directing traffic, signage was posted in advance, and access to the downtown business district has remained available at all times.
The work at the Main Street intersection is expected to be completed and reopened this evening by 10 PM. Tomorrow, construction activity will shift to the Sarah Street intersection, where traffic will once again be redirected during the workday before reopening tomorrow evening. The roadway will be fully accessible ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.
The installation of removable bollard sleeves is part of ongoing event and pedestrian safety improvements used to support downtown festivals, community events, and temporary street closures. Similar systems already exist elsewhere in the downtown and are utilized during major events throughout the year.
This project was supported through outside grant funding designated for community improvement and event safety infrastructure. These funds cannot simply be redirected toward unrelated projects.
We also want to thank our Borough Public Works Department for their hard work today, including managing traffic, completing this infrastructure installation, and installing patriotic pennant flags above N 6th Street in preparation for the holiday weekend, all while working through the recent heat.
We recognize that any temporary disruption can be inconvenient, and we sincerely appreciate the continued support of our downtown businesses, residents, and visitors as we continue working to improve on the safety, functionality, and long-term vibrancy of Downtown Stroudsburg.
