πŸ’‘ Our trained SOS providers Miss. Maggie & Miss. Danielle have some tips for your picky eaters to try this Thanksgiving! πŸ’‘

Thanksgiving is a meal that we do not eat every day and it’s a good opportunity to encourage your kids to try new food.

This Thanksgiving try:

πŸ¦ƒ Having your child help PREPARE the food.
Having your child try each ingredient SEPARATELY before it gets put together.
Make it fun! Try shaping the food with a cookie cutter.

πŸ¦ƒ Most importantly with SOS we want to remind you to make your kid know that it is a safe environment when trying a new food and if they do not like it they can spit it out.

πŸ¦ƒ Also remember to be patient and understanding of your child when they are accepting new experiences and try not to use preferred foods such as dessert as a reinforcer to avoid negative feelings toward new food.

The AAC research team at Penn State is conducting a research study to learn more about supporting reading skills for individuals with complex communication needs.

They would like to look at the impact of a new software which has been designed to support the acquisition of literacy skills, specifically skills to sound out and read new words for individuals with developmental disabilities (i.e., autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, or intellectual/developmental disability).

They are currently recruiting for fully remote studies (conducted over Zoom) with school-age children with CP and adolescents or adults with ASD!

If you would like to learn more information about the study or know of anyone that may benefit from participating, please contact them via email at [email protected] or phone 814-863-2003 to arrange for a time to talk in more detail.
