Our Scout Troop is doing a fundraiser with the Rotary Club of Strongsville.

Buying ducks allows each Scout the chance to help pay their way through Scouting. Besides helping our Scouts, the Rotary, you have a chance to win prize money up to $5000!

If you don't know any of our awesome Scouts, use "701".

Scouting summer camp. A week away from Mom and Dad, having fun with fellow Scouts, earning merit badges and do fun activities they don't get a chance at home.

I included 2 photos. First photo is a couple scouting learning to row on a lake. Second photo is a couple of them sinking the boat. They are not panicking. Remaining calm and handling the situation. Scouts learn, and knowledge prevents panic. Hard to say if they were doing that as part of a merit badge or just having fun.

Scouting keeps families tight. It's not just camping in the woods — it's a way of life: taking care of yourself, taking care of others, improving your community. Nothing in the Scout Law mentions "family," but ask around — our Scouts are some of the closest kids to their parents you'll ever meet. 🏕️

Tonight the Scouts hiked 5 miles in this blazing hot heat. It’s 92 at 8:30pm. This hike starts at the sled hill on 130th. This is a requirement to rank up in Scouts. Only about 5 Scouts need this requirement to be signed off. As you can see most of the Troop went. They didn’t have to. They went because they love Scouting and support each other. They ended at Dairy Queen in Strongsville.

Bring your son to a meeting, talk to a parent of a scout or talk to a scout. See why scouting is an amazing opportunity for growth, maturity and fun.

Right before Memorial Day Troop 701 put in flag poles in the ground, raise flags and add signs to the city park at 82 and Pearl. They do this every year helping the Kiwanis Club. The Scout lead them selves and take control. Adult leaders step aside to help and watch. Some times to inject some help. Afterwards they walked down the road and placed flags on soldiers graves. At the end of summer they will take down the flags, poles and Signs.

I added comments to a lot of the photos.

Wes (Troop Leader) walked up to Chris (Sr Patrol Leader) said it was time. That is all it took to get the well oil machine to roar to life quietly. Chris signed to Bob (Assistant Sr Patrol Leader). Bob put up the signal of 3 fingers in the air. He asked the Scouts to form a single line. Not screaming, just calm and confident. Just like Chris’s signal to him. The room quieted down and the Scouts got in this line. The room went from chaotic to calm. Chris walked down the line reminding a few Scout what Bob asked. The adult leaders stood off to the side to watch the power of the boy lead troop. It’s inspiring.

Don't forget today is Dining to Donate at Applebee's in Brunswick. Why cook at home? We are raising money to keep the summer camp price down. Summer camp is a great time for the Scouts. They learn, have fun, and get away from Mom and Dad.

Tell your waitress/waiter the code "DoinGood" for us to receive credit. You can also order TO GO orders, instructions attached, use code: DOINGOOD. Uber Eats & DoorDash are excluded.

** Please share. ** Every order helps. Did I say you need to tell them "Doingood"?

Thank you to one of our Scout moms, Michelle Meade, for arranging this.

We were notified that Strongsville High School will not be open tomorrow due to the weather. As a result, we are rescheduling our registration night to next week:

📆 Date: Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026.
⏰ Time: 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm.
📍 Location: Strongsville High School – Media Center, 20025 Lunn Road, Strongsville, OH.

If any of your AOL scouts are unable to attend but would still like to join Troop 701, please let me know. We can coordinate an alternate date and time to complete the necessary paperwork.

Again, this event is intended for parents/guardians of Arrow of Light Scouts, as well as new Scouts who are at least 10 years old and currently in fifth grade, with sons who are planning to cross over / join Troop 701.

Troop 701's Committee Chair will be on hand to guide parents/guardians through the registration process and answer any questions. Troop 701 / Scouting America items (handbooks, neckerchiefs, troop T-shirts, etc.) will be available for purchase at the event, as well.

We look forward to welcoming our new Scouts to Troop 701.
Stay safe in the cold weather, and we’ll see you soon!

Yours in Scouting,

David Kunselman, ASM Troop 701
