Megan Littlejohn Foundation Assisting children and families of children who have been tragically killed in accidents by providin

About us: In July of 2012, our family of four was headed home from a mini-vacation when we were involved in a car accident. My husband and I were taken to the local ER for treatment but our kids (age 6 and 2) were more seriously injured so they were life-flighted to Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Because we weren’t able to travel with them, we called other family members to meet the choppe

r at the hospital, thinking that our kids were in the best hands and everything would be fine. What followed was a whirlwind of confusion for us – a flurry of medical tests, calls to friends and family to alert them to what happened and asking for prayers, waiting for updates on the kids…all the while trying to remain calm and trust God and the medical staff to handle the situation. Sadly, it wasn’t long until we found out that our precious baby girl was too seriously injured and didn’t survive once they got her to the ER. Our son miraculously only suffered a broken leg and a few small cuts. My husband and I both had head lacerations, concussions, and a lot of bruising and discomfort, but we were able to be reunited with our son a few hours later. The next hours-days-weeks-months were very difficult for us, but we were surrounded by amazing people every step of the way. We spent 4 days in the hospital while our son got well enough to come home, and the nurses and Child Life Specialists were available any time of the day and night. Our son may have been the only true patient, but they looked after the whole family. We very quickly realized that we would all need counseling to help us work through our loss, and the hospital helped us connect with a fabulous grief resource in the area. We began our grief counseling the day after our daughter's funeral and continued meeting with counselors, participating in family workshops, and joining support groups for more than 6 months. We still attend regular grief sessions and memorial activities at the counseling center. While we miss our baby girl tremendously, we have been trusting God every step of the way. We know He is in control and that there is a greater plan, even if we don’t understand why this had to happen. We also are comforted in knowing that Megan is happy and healthy in Heaven and we will be reunited with her one day. As a way to keep our precious daughter’s memory alive and also to help other families going through similar difficult situations, we decided to form a foundation in her honor. We wanted to help others the way we were helped time and time again. The goal of the Foundation is to support Child Life Specialists and Grief Counselors by providing whatever tools and supplies they need to help other children and families in crisis.

An Update From Our 2018 Scholarship Winner:

Hello Megan Littlejohn Foundation,
This is Olivia Dujanovic, I am a third year Child Life Graduate Student at The University of Akron and am the 2018 Lisa Perry Scholarship recipient from The University of Akron. I have a huge life update that I wanted to share with your incredible team. Last week, I accepted a child life internship position at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia! I am so honored and excited to start this journey of my life. I am so thankful to have received this scholarship as I was entering my second year of graduate school, it helped me maintain a nice balance of work and school and having to pay tuition. I just wanted to share some good news through these uncertain times. I am so incredibly proud to represent The University of Akron and this foundation! I hope all is well and that things will pick back up soon. Thank you again!

Sincerely,
Olivia Dujanovic
M.A. Candidate, Child Life

Trivia Night is a fun trivia competition made up of multiple teams, up to 6 people each. The teams each have their own table. There are usually categories, things like music, sports, pop culture, etc, and the questions are read aloud, one at a time. You are allowed and encouraged to brainstorm with your teammates to guess the answer that you write on the official scoring sheet, which is turned in to the judges after each round. The team that answers the most questions is the winner. Prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place teams. We will be at Oak River Church in Solon, Ohio this year!!
