Our dear friends in Haiti and their entire nation needs our prayers. Businesses, banks and most establishments are only open sporadically making it difficult to purchase even the most basic needs of food and water. Gas prices have been reported to run as high as $35.00 US per gallon when purchased off the streets (gas stations are often closed and out of fuel). My dear friend, Jonas and his family now travel by bicycle when necessary. They try to stay in the safety of their home as much as possible. Even that is not always safe as robbers have broken into many homes. Schools have not started up this fall as of yet. They are scheduled to start school November 3rd, but as the political unrest worsens, this may not come to fruition.
Haitian Ministries posted the following update yesterday with more of the current situation:
“Please continue praying for Haiti 🙏🏻we received an update from John today. We received a message from Jovite as well. We are thankful they are safe.
Our communication lines have been difficult. It goes on and off. We have a hard time connecting to each other. Telephone providers having trouble to operate because of fuel and cut down telephone lines. Most hospitals have been shut down due to fuel and safety. The US, French, Canadian embassies have asked it citizens to leave Haiti. And UN asked its personnels to leave the country. Gangs have shutdown main fuel terminals making it almost impossible to distribute fuel throughout the country. Civilians have barricaded all the main highways and street to stop traffic. People are running out of food and we are facing a humanitarian crisis. United Nation security counsel met a couple of days ago on the Haiti situation. There is possibility a return of the UN force in Haiti and many other options are on the table. People are suffering as they are unable to move freely, children can't go to school, people are getting poorer and sicker. We are being wise with the little that we have and finding opportunities to share the gospel and meds in the communities near us. Some days the politicians will announce this or that day is free to re up on essentials. We make the best of those days to serve. Pray for our safety and Haiti's future. We love you, too. We will continue to pray for your health. We wish you well. Stay safe from hurricane Ian.”
