“The desire to serve, the courage to act.”

That’s our motto at the Streator Fire Department. It’s not just a catch phrase, it’s a responsibility.

At last nights council meeting the following awards were given:

Life Saving Medal: while off-duty Firefighter William Missel responded to two separate calls for help. In both of those instances, he found a person in cardiac arrest. In both instances FF Missel immediately began performing CPR until on-duty crews could arrive. FF Missel’s dedication to duty, quick thinking, and immediate care resulted in saving the lives of two Streator residents. For his actions he is awarded the SFD Life Saving Medal.

Baby Delivery Commendation: while serving as a dispatcher for Vermillion Valley Emergency Communications (Vcom-911 responsible for dispatching Streator PD and Fire) Telecomunicator Kilie Tilley took a call from a woman in active labor. TC Tilley talked the woman through the delivery of her baby before Fire Department crews could arrive. For her calm presence, confident advice, and coordination of emergency response TC Tilley is awarded the SFD Baby Delivery Commendation. She also received a SFD Challenge Coin.

Unit Commendation: after being notified of a structure fire with two adults confirmed to be trapped this combination of on duty and off duty firefighters immediately responded to the scene. Capt Bryan Park ordered a Vent Enter and Search be conducted to rescue the trapped occupants. While this action was being performed, Capt Park was able to locate the victims and talk them through climbing out a window and onto a roof. Firefighters then conducted a ladder rescue of the two adults from the roof of the home while others initiated an aggressive fire attack. For their dedication to service, courage to act, and timely coordination of skill the following personnel are awarded the SFD Unit Commendation:
Captain Fred McClellan
Captain Bryan Park
Captain Tim Redd
Lieutenant Ed Levy
Lieutenant Jeff Arendell
Firefighter William Missel

🎅🚨Community Alert🚨🎅

With heavy hearts, we must announce the cancellation of this year’s Lighted Christmas Parade in Streator. ❄️💔

This is the first time in over 20 years that we’ve had to make this difficult decision — and what an incredible run we’ve had together. For more than two decades, this parade has filled our streets with light, joy, and the spirit of community, and we’re so grateful for everyone who has helped make it magical year after year.

Unfortunately, the incoming snowstorm presents too many risks for our participants, volunteers, and parade-goers. Your health and safety will always come first. From hazardous roads to limited visibility and dangerous wind chills, the conditions simply aren’t safe for a large outdoor event.

We know how disappointing this is, and we feel it too. To help keep a little of the holiday spirit alive, the sponsored lighted floats will still be available for viewing at the City Park tonight only. We hope this brings some joy and a bit of sparkle to your evening.

And for those hoping to see Santa, he will be at the Incubator today from noon until 3 p.m. if you’d like to stop by.

Thank you for your understanding, for your support, and for being part of such a cherished tradition. Stay safe, stay warm, and may your holiday season continue to shine brightly. ❤️✨
