Golden Anniversaries! The museum will be featuring Bartlett couples through history that celebrated this milestone.

August C. Schick (1858-1939) and Augusta Meyer Schick (1861-1940), pictured here on their 50th anniversary, were married on November 18, 1883 in DuPage County.

August was born near Cloverdale, today Bloomingdale, and lived his life in Bartlett and the surrounding area. He was a farmer in his youth and later operated a general store in Bartlett. He served as the village’s postmaster from 1902-1908 with the post office located in his Railroad Avenue store. He was later employed by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad. August was also a village trustee serving from Bartlett’s incorporation in 1891 to 1899.

Augusta was born near Ontarioville, today Hanover Park, and also was a lifelong area resident. She was active in the Ladies Aid of Immanuel United Church of Christ.

According to census records, the couple had six children, with four surviving to adulthood; George (1893-1969) and daughters Ada (1896-1993), Alma (1884-1931) and Lucinda (1890-1912). Their infant son was the first person recorded as being buried in Bartlett Cemetery. The sixth child is unknown to the museum.

The Schick family were charter members of Immanuel United Church of Christ. The property the church is located on was purchased from the Schick family and August is credited with the building of the church.
