Ewalu Bible Camp & Retreat Center Ewalu Bible Camp and Retreat Center is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Nestled in the countryside just west of Strawberry Point, Iowa, where woods and prairies meet, Ewalu has served as a place for custom retreats, vibrant summer camp programs, and Christian ministry for 60 years. Ewalu is an ACA-accredited camp and conference center that offers a full summer camp program as well as numerous year-round ministries and events for youth and adults.

Week 2 is off to a wonderful start... the weather is perfect 🌞 as we welcome Mini Camp, Explorers, Trailblazers, Foresters, Pioneers, Splash Camp, and Uplifted. Plus, Rock & Raft is in Wisconsin for a whitewater rafting and rock-climbing adventure! We have 2 Day Camp teams this week in Pleasant Valley and Walford. And also on site, a great lineup of volunteers to help campers have an amazing week! Let's gooooo!

Just a FEW more photos from staff training... including some fun "bloopers"! 📸 Special thanks to the parents who were part of our "Parent Panel" and gave their perspective to our summer staff. We're so excited to have these young adults leading campers all summer as they explore their faith, make new friends, try new things and HAVE FUN at Ewalu!

Wet weather? Yeah, but we're still having a great week at Ewalu! Wednesday brought the Christ Walk and just enough dry time to go creek-stomping, plus some "slip-n-slide" fun and a hoe-down! It's been a rainy Thursday, but it's finally letting up and we're planning to have our final-night activities to have a great finish to our first week 👍

We've had a damp start to Week 1, but we're off and running! Excited to enjoy the beautiful weather Tuesday! 🌞
This week, we have Onsite Day Camp, Explorers, Night Camp and Confirmation Camp at Ewalu, plus Houseboating out on the Mississippi River. Our Day Camp teams are in Charles City, Garnavillo, and Wyoming (IA). Our first-session Leadership Training campers (LTs) have also begun their 4-week program at camp. More photos to come later in the week!

Something new for this year's annual Quilt Auction: a quilt raffle!

BillJo Eckheart of Arlington has donated this gorgeous king-sized quilt that she pieced and quilted. Raffle tickets are available NOW through September 19 for $50 each. The more you buy, the bigger your chance of winning! This quilt is STUNNING... folks marveled at it when we had it on display recently at camp.

We're also encouraging congregations and quilt groups to buy tickets... if you win the quilt, you could even auction it for YOUR group!

The pattern is "Hocus Pocus" by Judy Niemeyer, a beautiful paper piecing technique with jewel tones, neutrals and white. The quilt measures 118 inches by 118 inches, so it will fit a king bed or a queen bed with a big drop. The quilt has hand-binding by Jeanne Helgerson.
