Good morning facebook....

For whatever reasons, the universe chose the last week or so to keep sending me constant memories of Kristin Mullin Jaekle.

i came across this video this morning and although i have seen it dozens of times, it still gets to me...every time.

I am starting to think it may be because It reminds me of what a younger version of her would have been like from when we 1st met almost 30 years ago.

And this certainly would have been a song she would have picked.

Take 9 minutes to enjoy it.

You may even think about her too.

The world deserved to have her in it longer.

The Girl with the Butterfly Tattoo

Butterflies are deep and powerful representations of life. Many cultures associate the butterfly with our souls. The Christian religion sees the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection. Around the world, people view the butterfly as representing endurance, strength, change, hope, and life.

Kristin Jaekle got a butterfly tattoo on her ankle when she was 35 years old. At the time, it would represent her acceptance, comfort and confidence in the woman she had become and working towards being her best self.

In March of 2009, at the age of 37, she was diagnosed with Stage 3C Ovarian Cancer. Over the coming months, she immersed herself in treatments, medicines for managing the side effects, and surgeries to extract the tumors. At the start of 2010, Kristin was in remission but advised that if the disease returned it would need to be managed like a chronic condition, like high blood pressure. It did return within the year and the next 7 years were filled with treatment after treatment with different medicines that were supposed to help keep her cancer at bay until March 2018 when treatments would no longer work well enough to keep the disease from progressing.

Through it all, Kristin was first and foremost-the mother to our sons Davis, Max and Owen…My best friend…she was also an aunt, niece, daughter, sister-in-law, co-worker, friend, daughter-in-law and my wife. She never wanted to be defined by her disease and her disease did not define her. Her attitudes, efforts, and focus fighting the disease were always done with eye towards causing as little inconvenience as possible to her day-to-day living and the priorities she wanted to focus on-her sons, her home, her family, and what the next design would be for the (fill in the blank) room of the house. She had a great eye for decorating.
