On this solemn 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember the 2,977 innocent lives taken from us on that horrific Tuesday morning. We especially remember the 60 police officers and 161 Connecticut residents who never made it home to their families. We honor the police officers, firefighters, first responders, and other public servants who gave everything on September 11th—and who held our nation together in the years after.
Twenty-five years ago, our nation was changed forever. On September 11, 2001, we lost 2,977 mothers, fathers, children, friends, and colleagues. We also witnessed extraordinary courage—people who ran toward danger to save others, and public employees who kept communities functioning in the face of unthinkable loss.
As the largest public-sector union in Connecticut—representing thousands across law enforcement and corrections, as well as 911 dispatchers, educators, social workers, transportation, and public works crews, and so many other public servants—we remember not only the lives taken that day, but also those who have suffered and died from 9/11-related illnesses in the years since. And we honor the public servants who risked their lives during and after this attack, from the police officers evacuating the towers, to the public works employees risking their lives to help rebuild communities—they are 𝙃𝙀𝙍𝙊𝙀𝙎, every one!
Twenty-five years later, we still carry their courage, their sacrifice, and their memory with us. We will never forget, and we will always fight to protect those who protect us.
