Housatonic River Clean Up, Inc.

Housatonic River Clean Up, Inc. Our 2026 event is scheduled for April 25, 2026 from 8 am to 2 pm Today the organization is known as Housatonic River Clean Up, Inc. All are welcome to attend!

The Housatonic River Clean Up originally began in 1988 with the Trophy Chasers Fishing Club in response to the increase in trash/refuse that could be found along the shores and on the islands in the Housatonic River between the Derby Dam and the mouth of the river in Stratford. The annual clean up, which takes place annually in early spring, brings 200+ volunteers from the community. Together, we

attempt to prevent further damage to the environment by pulling potentially dangerous items from the river, its banks, and its islands before it can do more harm. During this time, we also seek to educate as many individuals as possible in order to prevent trash/refuse from entering not just the Housatonic River, but other waterways as well. When participating in the event, we ask that you please dress accordingly per the weather and conditions. Gloves, trash bags, and buckets will be provided to volunteers as well as lunch and other refreshments. Come by yourself or get a team of friends, family, or co-workers together.

This Girl Scout troop from Bridgeport joined us this year! We gave them a gift card from our sponsor Sanitary Equipment. They worked hard to help us with cleaning up around the boat ramp.
