Our next appreciation post is for William, a guide who Terrie met on her safari in May of 2024 (slide 1). Two years later (slides 2-6), William served T-Up wholeheartedly, driving 2000 km (1200 miles) over the course of eight days, translating, assigning conservancy guides as we traveled, registering participants, making sure lunch and water were always had, and ensuring the crew was home safe by dark. We are incredibly grateful for William’s time and dedication, and cannot thank ultimate.earth enough for sharing him with us!

We’d now like to shoutout for unwavering dedication to our mission. Some words of appreciation from Terrie:

“In December 2025 when I found I would be going to the Conservancy Lands in Namibia, I also learned I would be visiting hundreds of people.

Lily was home in Vermont, from Bali, for the holidays and I was telling her this over lunch. She said, ‘I can come to Namibia; then we’ll just go to Bali together.’

DONE! What an asset, treat, great way to spend this life changing madien voyage for T-Up Vision.

Day one, here we go!

Lily manned the distance eye chart: on an easel, taped to a wall, or on the side of our truck, every stop was a one-minute plan and execute!

For anyone to young (or old) not comfortable with letters on the eye chart, we had a chart with shapes. A small chart was held by the participant to point to the shape on the chart.
The video in slide 7 is of one of our favorite kiddos pointing to the shapes as Lily pointed to them on the chart. (she nailed it)

Lily was instrumental in getting photos snapped too, a talent I lack. I appreciate her to Namibia and Bali, the moon, and back :)”

The work is nothing but rewarding. The need is so real. The work will be recurring for T-Up Vision. These are some photos from the last days in Damaraland, Namibia.

We met people where they needed us, right in their family compound, or hanging in the shade under a tree.

The kids were inquisitive, often happy to get on our lap and ‘help.’

From lodging and meals, to our Savannah (trusty truck), to have William as our guide, driver, translator, I feel extremely fortunate to be welcomed into this wonderful partnership, and look forward to next time!

Jason was my first point of contact and will be forever be Team T-Up, he wears the hat well. He visited us in the field and jumped right into the vision screening mix!

Truly, I cannot thank .earth1 enough. We made a difference, with much more to come. Let’s See.”

How we envisioned our process of visual assessment ➡️ the process in actuality!

Participants undergo the following steps:

1. Register for our records
2. Read an eye chart from about 10ft away, one eye at a time
3. Work through a reading chart
4. Undergo a test by the QuickSee which provides a prescription
5. Are provided with corrective eye wear if warranted!

We have had participants work through the reading chart before and after receiving the glasses, and a smile at the end says it all!

While in Damaraland, we spent an amazing day driving from farm to farm in the Doro !Nawas conservancy. We were lucky to meet so many beautiful faces and learn so much from the community. Every person we have met has welcomed us with open minds and ready to test their vision!

Our time immersed in this space really reminds us that the need is real. Keep folllowing the journey to see more!

Our first few days in Damaraland, Namibia was a huge success. With the help of the amazing team we served almost 200 community members from the Uibasen Conservancy.

We had literal truckloads of excited participants! It was such a joy to see the smiles that clear vision can bring 🤓

Pictured here is Terrie using the QuickSee device, created and manufactured by 👓 This handheld device allows for the assessment of one’s vision and resulting potential need for visual correction, in just minutes. This device allows our mission to come into fruition, and has helped Terrie provide 40 pairs of corrective lenses! Please visit or their website to learn more about this device! 🧡🧡

Throughout her first two days assessing vision, Terrie saw 59 people and was able to provide corrective eyeglasses to 40 of the 59. The need speaks for itself. Thank you to everyone who has supported this cause and these smiles thus far! This is not possible without you!!

Our first trip is officially underway! Thanks to the partnership of The Conservation Travel Foundation, Terrie will be traveling to all of the villages and offices of the Doro Nawas, Sorris Sorris and Uibasen Conservancies, and conduct field tests and examinations of community members’ vision, providing corrective lenses when needed.
