The Steve Wood Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Stow Fire Department Captain Steve Wood who passed away January 2, 2020. In keeping with Captain Steve Wood’s lifelong dedication to community service and helping others, it is IAFF Local 1662’s honor and privilege to provide scholarship opportunities to graduating students of the Stow Munroe Falls High School who will be pursuing a career in the fire and emergency services.

Captain Wood began his firefighting career as a volunteer firefighter with Tallmadge Fire Department in 1979. He continued with the department as a part-time firefighter and served for 36 years. Captain Wood was also a full-time firefighter at Stow Fire Department. He rose through the ranks of firefighter, paramedic, Lieutenant, and Captain. Captain Wood served the community of Stow for 29 years, before retiring in January 2016. During his time on the fire department, Captain Wood was also an integral part of the Summit County Hazardous Materials Team, where he was a Zone Coordinator and Director of Operations. His dedication and contributions to the fire service were many. His leadership was admired by his brother and sister firefighters in Stow and Tallmadge, Summit County, and all over the region.

IAFF Local 1662 is honored to offer the Steve Wood Memorial Scholarship.
