Yesterday, October 22, 2025, a mortgage company field worker was shot and killed while on assignment in Stafford County, Virginia. Our hearts are with the victim’s family, colleagues, and the entire field community. (CBS 6 News Richmond WTVR)

As an industry, we must double down on safety-first practices for every site visit. Before you step out of the vehicle:
• Pause & assess surroundings; trust your gut.
• Announce your presence loudly and clearly; wear visible ID and high-vis apparel.
• Verify address & work order; if anything seems wrong—leave and escalate.
• Buddy up / check-in using live GPS and timed callbacks.
• Call local non-emergency if you anticipate hostility or see weapons, threats, or signs of occupancy beyond what’s expected.
• Back out immediately at any sign of confrontation or danger; de-escalation and distance come first.
