Two assisted living communities can advertise similar prices and still have very different monthly totals.
➡️ One helpful question to ask is: “Can you show me the expected monthly total for someone with needs similar to my loved one?”
🏡 Before choosing a community, ask exactly what the rate includes. Meals, housekeeping, transportation, personal care, and medication support may be included, or they may be billed separately.
It also helps to compare that total with the real cost of staying at home. Home care visits, meals, transportation, home upkeep, safety check ins, and time away from work can all affect what a family is already spending.
📋 Another important question is what happens if care needs increase. Ask how pricing may change if your loved one later needs more help with medications, bathing, dressing, mobility, toileting, incontinence care, or memory support.
Families may also have resources that can help, including long term care insurance, veteran benefits, savings, investments, home equity, or proceeds from a property sale. Reviewing these early can give you more time to plan.
