General information
Participation in all Stow YES Softball teams shall be open to all residents of the Cities of Stow and Munroe Falls, Ohio meeting the age bracket requirements set by league rules for the participating teams. League rules will determine team placement and eligibility for residents of outside communities. Fees for our programs will be set to cover costs and will be determined by the board of directors. From time to time, based on available funding, enrollment and participation fees will be free or reduced for people in financial need. Expenses not covered by our nominal participation fees will be covered by sponsorship donations and fundraising events. Stow YES Softball league descriptions are as follows: • I League – An introductory fast-pitch softball league specifically designed for 7 and 8 year old girls. Coaches focus on teaching the players the fundamentals of the game which will aid in their softball development. The season consists of 14 games beginning with the first seven being coach pitch and the last seven player pitch. Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday nights. No scores or standings are kept as the purpose is for girls to enjoy themselves and begin to develop an understanding of the fundamentals of the game of softball. The season is capped off by the “Tomorrow’s Stars” event. Girls pitch from a distance of 30’ and the bases are set at 60’. • A League – A fast-pitch softball league for girls under the age of 10. Coaches continue to build upon the fundamentals taught at the instructional league level. The season consists of 14 regular season games, a year end tournament, and an All Star game. Standings are maintained. Games are played on Monday and Friday nights. Teams play a variety of communities in the nearby area. The main goals for this league is for the girls to enjoy themselves and continue to develop the fundamentals of throwing, catching, fielding, hitting and base-running. Girls pitch from a distance of 35’and the bases are set at 60’. While Stow YES rules apply, the league is sanctioned by the NSA. • B League – A fast-pitch softball league for girls under the age of 12. Coaches continue to stress the fundamentals of the game. The rules closely mirror those that the girls will encounter playing in high school. The season consists of 14 regular season games, a year end tournament, and an All Star game. Standings are maintained. Games are played on Monday and Friday nights with some games being played on Saturdays. Teams play a variety of communities in the nearby area. As with all Stow Y.E.S. leagues, the ultimate goal is to create an atmosphere where the girls can enjoy themselves and continue to develop their softball skills. This league also serves as a feeder program for the high school program. Girls pitch from 40’ and the bases are set at 60’. While Stow YES rules apply, the league is sanctioned by the NSA. • C League – A fast pitch softball league for girls under the age of 14. In this league, the players encounter the same rules as in high school. The season consists of 14 regular season games, a year end tournament, and an All Star game. Standings are maintained. Games are played on Monday and Wednesday nights with some games being played on Saturdays. Teams play a variety of communities in the nearby area. Coaches refine the fundamentals of the game and there is a continued emphasis on sportsmanship and fostering a fun atmosphere for all participants. This league also serves as a feeder program for the high school program. Girls pitch from 40’ and the bases are set at 60’. While Stow YES rules apply, the league is sanctioned by the NSA. • Cuyahoga Valley Elite League (CVEL) – A fast pitch travel softball league, the CVEL is an extension of the Stow YES program and provides a higher level of competition to Stow girls at the 12u, 14u and 18u age levels. Each roster is comprised mainly of Stow girls however there is an allowance for up to two girls from other communities. In this league, the player encounters the same rules as in high school. The season consists of a 14-16 game schedule along with a mid-season and end-of-year tournament. Games are played throughout the week and on weekends. Teams are placed into divisions within each age level that supports the highest possible competitive level of play. The respective manager for each team has input as to the placement of the team from a competitive point of view. Typically returning teams are placed in the most competitive bracket. Teams play other travel teams within a one-hour travel radius. Teams may receive additional professional instructional from outside sources as well as other amenities that are including in their registration fee. The CVEL serves as a feeder league to the high school program. While the CVEL is a more competitive league, there is a continued emphasis on sportsmanship and fostering a fun atmosphere for all participants. Girls pitch form 40’ and the bases are set at 60’. CVEL rules apply and the league is sanctioned by the NSA. • Summit Premiere League (SPL) - A fast pitch travel league, the SPL is an extension of the Stow YES program and is a blend of teams throughout Summit County that play at varying competitive levels. The league consists of teams at the 12u and 14u age levels. The SPL features teams in two different divisions per age level – each division consists of teams that are comparable in skill level with one another. Teams of comparable skill level play are scheduled to play one another on a more frequent basis. Teams at different skill levels play each other on a less frequent basis. In this league, the player encounters the same rules as in high school. The season consists of 14 to 16 regular season games and tournament play. Games are played throughout the week and the weekends. Teams are based in Summit County and the travel radius is typically less than 30 minutes. The SPL serves as a feeder league to their respective high school programs. While this league is generally more competitive league, there is a continued emphasis on sportsmanship and fostering a fun atmosphere for all participants. Girls pitch from 40’ and the bases are set at 60’. Stow YES rules apply, however the league is sanctioned by the NSA.
