Story Volunteer Fire Department SVFD provides medical and fire response to the Story Fire District in Sheridan County, WY.

The Story Volunteer Fire Department serves the Story Fire District in Sheridan County, Wyoming (this includes Interstate 90 from MM32 to MM40). We provide comprehensive structure and wildland fire response and initial response for medical calls. We work closely with Rocky Mountain Ambulance Service and have mutual aid fire agreements with the other county fire districts and the City of Sheridan. S

tory Fire is staffed 100% by volunteers; there are no paid employees or any monetary compensation received by members. At present time, we have the equipment and protective gear to supply 12-14 members maximum. The Story Fire Hall is an unmanned station; members are only present on-site during monthly training and business meetings, fire or medical calls and special work days. Story Fire averages 100 calls per year with 85% being medical and 15% being fire related. On average, there is one large structure fire every one to two years; the rest being small structure fires or wildland fire events. Business meetings are the second Tuesday of the month and training meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month, both at 6 pm.

We have had some questions about fire restrictions since the recent moisture we received, but at this time, they remain in effect. The decisions regarding fire restrictions are made by the county comissioners, and are county wide. We are sorry for the inconvenience and would like to remind you that the sheridan landfill takes all green waste (just not tree trunks) free of charge. Thank you!
