Meet Reka (Schloegl) Wrynn - 10 year 4-H Member (1983-1992) in Indianapolis, Indiana (Marion County)

Primary 4-H Project: Leadership

How 4-H impacted my life: Over 10 years, 4-H transformed me from an eager participant into a confident leader with experience at the local, county, state, and national levels. I organized many leadership programs, mentored younger members, supported community initiatives, and participated extensively in service projects benefiting children and disadvantaged youth, nursing home residents, families, and community organizations. I embraced projects ranging from child development, crafts, flowers, goats, foods, and genealogy to computers, compact tractors, poultry, and performing arts. I especially thrived in the Junior Leadership program, where the possibilities seemed endless and I earned the opportunity to represent Indiana at several national 4-H conferences. These experiences also contributed to my selection as the 1991 county fair queen, opening even more doors for personal growth. Most importantly, 4-H gave me a lasting foundation in leadership, planning, teamwork, budgeting, public speaking, and service—skills that have shaped and strengthened my career for more than 30 years.

Current Role: Associate Vice President and Chief Budget Officer at UConn, where I have worked for nearly 27 years
