As a once independent college student herself, F.O.S.T.E.R Independence Foundation’s founder Alex Katz has dedicated her career to providing them with the tools they need to succeed.
While receiving her Master’s in High Education and Human Development, Alex became involved in research and legislative efforts to provide more supports to students experiencing food and housing insecurity, and has worked with hundreds of Higher Education professionals to help them develop trauma-informed resources and procedures for working with independent students.
From 2018 - 2021, Alex served as the Program Specialist for UConn’s Rising Scholars Program (a college access program for high school students in the CT foster care system), while she simultaneously developed and advised a caseload of independent UConn students, implemented a student organization for independent students called Creating Caring Communities, and served on UConn’s Food Insecurity Task force.
After leaving UConn in 2021, Alex founded F.O.S.T.E.R Independence Foundation to continue and expand the work she was doing at the university on a broader and more intentional level.
Thank you for being on this journey!
