❄️ Alexander County Weather Update ❄️

Alexander County remains under a Winter Storm Warning until 7:00 AM tomorrow and an Extreme Cold Warning from 7:00 PM tonight until 10:00 AM tomorrow. The county is expected to receive 5–8 inches of total snowfall from this storm.

Temperatures today will only reach the mid-20s, with overnight lows near 11 degrees. Wind gusts in the low 20 mph range will result in wind chills below zero tonight, making conditions dangerous for anyone outdoors for extended periods. Sunday’s high should reach around 32 degrees with sunshine, which may gradually help improve travel conditions. This is expected to be powdery snow, but slick spots and hidden black ice are still possible. Sunday’s sunshine will help; however, shaded areas may still experience issues.

Many roads are already snow-covered, and additional snowfall is expected. The heaviest snow is expected between now and 1 PM, where over 3 inches of additional accumulation is possible, followed by another potential 1–2 inches from 1 PM to 7 PM, with precipitation tapering off around 4 PM. Periods of blowing snow may also reduce visibility.

Cold temperatures will remain the primary concern, delaying road-clearing efforts and creating slick and refreezing conditions overnight. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads, if possible, to allow DOT, county, and town crews room to work safely and to ensure emergency services can respond quickly to those in need.

Please continue to monitor the Alexander County website at https://alexandercountync.gov/winter-storm-january-2026 and page (www.facebook.com/alexandercounty) for updates.

07/04/2025

The 4th of July, or Independence Day, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress in 1776, officially declaring the 13 American colonies' separation from Great Britain. While the vote for independence occurred on July 2nd, the formal approval and public announcement of the document, including the date, happened on July 4th. This day is celebrated with parades, fireworks, and other festivities across the United States.

Here's a more detailed look:

The Vote:

On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence from Great Britain.

The Declaration:

The Declaration of Independence, drafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson, was formally adopted on July 4th.

Public Announcement:

The first public readings of the Declaration were held on July 8th in Philadelphia.

Celebrations:

While initial celebrations were spontaneous, they became more widespread after the War of 1812 and have evolved into the traditions we recognize today.
The Significance:
The Declaration of Independence asserted the colonies' right to self-governance and outlined the principles of liberty and equality that continue to shape American identity.

July 4th and Freemasonry:

Many signers of the Declaration of Independence and influential figures in the American Revolution were Freemasons, including:

George Washington – A prominent Freemason and the first U.S. President, often seen as a symbolic bridge between Masonic ideals and American independence. George Washington was affiliated with two main lodges: the Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and the Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22 in Alexandria, Virginia. He joined the Fredericksburg Lodge in 1752 and later became the first Master of the Alexandria Lodge in 1788

Benjamin Franklin – A well-known Freemason and Enlightenment thinker, who helped draft the Declaration of Independence. Benjamin Franklin was initiated into Freemasonry at St. John's Lodge in Philadelphia in 1731. He later became a member of Les Neuf Sœurs (The Nine Sisters) Lodge in Paris while in France during the American Revolution

John Hancock – President of the Continental Congress and a Mason. John Hancock was a member of the Lodge of St. Andrew in Boston, MA. He joined this lodge in 1762. Interestingly, the Lodge of St. Andrew met at the Green Dragon Tavern, which was also a meeting place for the Sons of Liberty, a group John Hancock was involved with

Although not all signers were Freemasons, the fraternity's values were common among the revolutionary leaders.
