The Suffolk County Archaeological Association offers the following school programs:

Native Life at Hoyt Farm, Commack
~Fire pit cooking (corn cakes & vegetable soup)
~Creation of slate pendant necklace (that child keeps) using native technology
~Hematite face painting
~Native museum exploration
~Archaeological site excavation
~Ethnobotany walk (including shelter build

ing & fire-starting)
~Powwow (with native musical instruments)


Native Life Workshop (at your location)

~Deerskin costumes
~Corn cake cooking
~Hematite face painting
~Slate pendant drilling (that child keeps)
~Hands-on artifact table
~Powwow with music & instruments
~Slide show with posters


Colonial Life at Blydenburgh Co. Park (Smithtown)

~Cooking (Dutch apple pancakes, applesauce, butter churning)
~Textiles (wool carding, loom weaving, braiding)
~Carpentry activities
~Blacksmithing (each child makes an S-hook)
~Archaeological site excavation (extra cost)
~Frolic (colonial food, music)


Colonial Life Workshop (at your location)

~Cooking (Dutch apple pancakes, applesauce, butter churning)
~Textiles (wool carding & loom weaving)
~Carpentry (each child makes a wooden top) OR Blacksmithing (each child makes a nail ring)
~Frolic (colonial food, music)


The on-site Commack & Smithtown programs are about four hours long; the workshops are about an hour in length.
