NSGC’s annual Meet and Greet brought members and prospective members together for delicious botanical bites and herbal libations. Against the backdrop of the gorgeous LIM Emma Rockwell Herb Garden that the garden club maintains, we gathered to catch up and discuss what new programs we will be embarking on this coming season. Thank you to everyone who contributed the delectable treats and to The Long Island Museum for hosting us in this beautiful space.

So much fun! NSGC enjoyed an afternoon of friends, laughter and creativity at a Kokedama [the Japanese horticultural art of wrapping the root ball of a plant in soil and moss] class at Mills Hall. The Hort program, taught by Giselle Segovia at Valentina Verde Botánica , took us from a plotted plant to a beautiful Syngonium moss ball in no time!
If you are ever in the Wading River area on Long Island, stop by her plant shop for the most beautiful horticultural specimens!

Our very first Three Village Farmers Market appearance! The Three Village Farmers Market (hosted every Friday 3-7 by the Three Village Historical Society from late spring to early fall) gives nonprofits an opportunity to share their knowledge with the community— and we were ready! Native plant sale, lots of giveaways-lavender sachets,seed packets, native plant literature and even horseshoe crab art — and our gourd bird feeder raffle filled up our table.

Our native plant sale was a hit! Grown by LINPI in Brentwood, this selection included milkweed, white aster and lobelia.

North Suffolk’s Jean McCarroll hosted the second Botanical Arts workshop at her home this past Friday. Guided by Sarah Boynton’s book “Botanical Arts”, her instructional videos and Jean’s Lemon Shortbread, the focus was pressed flowers for the upcoming NSGC Bench Show in July. Next up: we tackle the brooch!
