Each year, the Sigma Theta Tau Kappa Gamma Chapter proudly partners with the Stony Brook University School of Nursing and Stony Brook University Hospital to celebrate innovation and scholarship in nursing.

This year, we hosted over 30 poster presentations and welcomed more than 122 registrants. Through our continued collaboration, we’re honored to support our outstanding poster winners with funding awards that recognize their hard work and contributions to advancing healthcare.

A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Dr. Danny Willis, for sharing his expertise and inspiring our community.

We look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence each year!

Congratulations to Joseph Tirella and Erin Zazzera, recipients of this year’s Sigma Theta Tau, Kappa Gamma Chapter Excellence Member Award.

This award recognizes nurses who demonstrate exemplary practice aligned with Sigma’s mission to improve healthcare and who actively contribute to the Kappa Gamma Chapter. This year, two outstanding nominees rose to the top and we are proud to honor them both.

“The Nurse’s Role in Lifestyle Medicine”

Lifestyle choices are the leading risk factors for chronic disease development. Advanced practice nurses certified in Lifestyle Medicine are clinical experts in preventing and treating chronic conditions through targeted lifestyle interventions.

Despite their growing impact, there is limited research examining their role in lifestyle management — and little exploration of their lived experiences in outpatient community settings. This presentation highlights findings exploring the role of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine–certified APRN and their contributions to chronic disease prevention and care.

Sigma Theta Tau – Kappa Gamma Chapter Excellence Member Award

We are excited to announce this award, created to recognize a nurse who exemplifies outstanding nursing practice and dedication to Sigma’s mission while actively participating in our chapter.

Award Amount: $250
Application Deadline: March 2, 2026
Notice of Award: March 16, 2026
Award Presentation: April 6, 2026 at the Annual Induction Ceremony

Eligibility:
• Currently practicing as a Registered Nurse
• Active member of Sigma Theta Tau – Kappa Gamma Chapter

Members may self-nominate or nominate another eligible member. All applicants who meet the criteria will be entered into a blind lottery, and one recipient will be randomly selected. Note: individuals may receive only one Kappa Gamma chapter award/scholarship/grant per year.
