- Funded 255 scholarships for Coast Guard students heading to college and trade school
- Awarded 912 youth enrichment grants so Coast Guard kids could go to summer camp, try new activities, and just have a good summer
- Supported 223 Coast Guard spouses with education grants to help them build careers through every move military life brings

It's a crowd pleaser. How do we know?

Coast Guard Culinary Specialists have to feed an average of up to 200 people per day, depending on the size of the station or sector. These crowd sizes can vary dramatically, so Culinary Specialists have to bring their best to the table.

In late May, a 74-year-old sailor set out alone on a solo voyage he'd made four times before: Hawaii to Canada.

This time, gale-force winds and 30-foot seas had other plans. His mast snapped. His engine failed. Injured and nearly 500 miles from the Oregon coast, he sent out a distress call on his handheld satellite communicator.

The Coast Guard was on it.

They launched a long-range C-27J Spartan from Sacramento to keep eyes on him from above — capable of airdropping life rafts, supplying rations, and helping with communication until help arrived. They coordinated with the nearest vessel, a cruise ship called Silver Whisper, which diverted course to rescue him. Their medical team cared for him until they reached Vancouver.

The Coast Guard stays ready in conditions most of us will never face. At the Coast Guard Foundation, we help make sure they have what they need to keep showing up: wellness programs, emergency relief for families, and year-round support through every challenge that comes with a life of service.
