BMC Smallwood’s journey to Chief Petty Officer is defined by initiative, motivation, and a deep care for his crew and community. From earning the Spirit of the Chief Award at the Chief Petty Officer Academy to strengthening local partnerships through volunteer work, he leads by example every day.

As Hurricane Isaias makes landfall along the Gulf Coast tonight, Coast Guard members are mobilizing rescue operations to save lives and protect our communities.

But while they're rushing into danger to protect our Gulf Coast communities, their own families are in the direct path of the storm.

That's where we come in. The Coast Guard Foundation's Disaster Relief Program is activated and ready to support Coast Guard families with emergency housing, transportation, and flexible recovery grants.

Unlike other military branches, Coast Guard members live right here in our communities - which means when hurricanes strike, their families are in the direct path.

The area's inaugural Run to Remember is coming to New London, Connecticut, on October 17 at Trumbull State Park! Are you signed up yet?

This 5k event is dedicated to the brave men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard with proceeds supporting the Coast Guard Foundation's emergency relief and tragedy assistance programs for our United States Coast Guard members and their families.

There will be awards, camaraderie, refreshments, and time spent honoring the legacy and sacrifice of our Coast Guard and its sister services. All members, families, and supporters of every branch is encouraged to attend! Children are welcome and will have their own free fun run as part of the festivities.
