The Lions year begins on July 1, and with it comes the annual Installation of Officers for the Mystic Lions Club.

Each year, members step into new leadership roles while others continue serving in positions they have held with dedication and experience. This year's installation ceremony was especially meaningful as Nanette Burdick administered the oath of office using versions of Lions Clubs International duties and responsibilities that have been shared in different languages and variations throughout the world.

While Lions Clubs around the globe may differ in culture and location, every club is built upon the same leadership positions and strengthened by the individuals who serve in them.

The Mystic Lions Club gathered at Stonington Vineyards for a beautiful summer evening surrounded by vineyards, good fellowship, and fine wine. It was the perfect setting to celebrate our incoming officers and recognize their commitment to serving our community.

We are pleased to share photos of the members present at the ceremony who have accepted leadership positions for the coming Lions year.

We want to welcome more people to join us in our community work and promote what the Lions Clubs International stands for.

Maybe we will see you next year!

The Mystic Lions meet the second Thursday of the month for a Membership and Foundation meeting that while is standard in procedure, covers all the previous and future activities that make us tick!
But during these meetings, special moments happen, and two of our favorite moments happened recently.
Chris Gush was given the Lions Chevron Award for 20 years of uninterrupted service from Lions Clubs International. We always promote how our members are long time volunteers and members that make our club what it is, and Chris exemplifies that. She has held many different positions during her time, and has made so many events possible. Thank you Chris for all your service, and being a Mystic Lion!
Next was having one of our charities come and visit and tell us about the up coming year and how the Mystic Lions donation will help.
Summer Sounds is a bright light in our community putting on weekly live shows at Mystic River Park Tuesday evenings at 7 P.M.
In 2026 the Mystic Lions will be the headlining sponsor for the June 30th night and featuring the Thames River Big Band!
Please come out and say hello, and also know that anyone is invited to our Thursday meets if your are interested in being a Mystic Lion....comment below or message us so we can make contact with you.

The Mystic Lions Club has lost a member, patriarch, and the man that when he walked into a room, everyone turned to say "Jan is here!"
We are saddened by this monumental loss to our club, our lives, and the community we live in, and that he imporved.
You will be impressed by what he accomplished, and for some of the readers, was there first hand to witness his spectacular life.
Once the tears and sadness go by, the laughter and smiles will always remain. Jan Miller simply made us all smile, laugh, and better people for being in his presents.

God bless you Jan!!

The Mystic Lions Club is service oriented to help our community in so many ways. And if we can help a fellow group in making a difference, we are always ready to join.
Mystic Lion and Groton Rotairian Richard & Lorretta Kent helped combine an effort to clean up on Thomas Road in Groton.
The walking trails and beautiful road offer so much outdoor oppritunities for the community to enjoy!
But humans are flawed and make a mess with garbage and litter that simply could be discarded. The Town of Groton Parks and Recreation places many garbage cans at all these sites.....
A few hours on a Saturday helped make a big difference....and we would love to have you join us!!

The Mystic Lions Club is proud to support the many local charities and organizations that make a real difference in our community. Through fundraising and hands-on volunteer work, we strive to help these groups achieve their goals—because often, time and effort can be just as impactful as financial support.

While our region is often viewed as an upper-middle-class area filled with beautiful shoreline towns and thriving tourism, the reality is that many of our neighbors face challenges such as homelessness and lack of access to basic necessities like food and clothing.

At a recent monthly meeting, we were honored to welcome Tori Lee of Malta Outreach in Groton, Connecticut. She shared the organization’s ongoing mission to bring light, dignity, and opportunity to individuals facing difficult circumstances—challenges that no one should have to face alone.

Malta Outreach is dedicated to restoring dignity and hope. Whether it’s providing clothing for a job interview, assisting a senior citizen in finding housing, or supplying essential items like toiletries, cleaning products, and food, their work has a meaningful and immediate impact. In some cases, individuals are living in their cars, where even putting gas in the tank can be a major hurdle.

The Mystic Lions Club is proud to contribute to this mission, and we are committed to finding even more ways to help.

We encourage you to take a moment to visit Malta Outreach’s website and page, follow their work, and consider making a donation. Most importantly, remember that these challenges are happening right here—in Mystic, Groton, and Stonington—and your support can truly make a difference.

Whether you join us or contribute on your own, we invite you to reach out and be part of something meaningful. Giving the gift of dignity and hope is one of the most powerful ways to serve our community.

The Mystic Lions Club thrives on two basic concepts:
New Membership & Recognition of our existing members...and last Thursday was an evening that highlighted these two events!

The event was made even more special by having attendance from our Portland Lion District Governor Jim Tripp, Portland Lion Liz Tripp, and Waterford Regional Lions Zone Chair Person Sheri Ann Calhoun

We welcomed new member Loretta Kent as she was sponsored by her wonderful and longtime member husband, Rich Kent.

Jim Tripp helped induct Loretta as the newest Mystic Lion in traditional form. This is two months in a row that we have inducted a new member....ARE YOU NEXT!!

Next was Jim presenting the 23C District Governors pin exemplifying outstanding work in the club. This was newly designed by Jim, and will be given to other Region 23c groups throughout the year.

Members Sue Jensen, Sandy Hall, and President Edward Hutter received the accolades of the District Governor with this well deserved emblem. Congratulations Mystic Lions Members!!
