🍽️ Over 31% of Ulster County residents worry about running out of food—that's nearly 1 in 3 people. Our County's own Community Health Assessment survey reveals food insecurity rates more than double the official estimates, painting a stark picture of hidden hunger right here at home. The burden falls hardest on those already facing systemic barriers: 28% of Latino residents and 23% of Black residents experience food insecurity—more than twice the rate of white residents—while nearly 15% of our children don't know where their next meal is coming from. Food insecurity isn't just about empty stomachs - it's a direct threat to health outcomes. When families can't access nutritious food consistently, they can't maintain their wellbeing. That's why Ulster County has established the Food Security Network—bringing partners together to strengthen our emergency food system and find real solutions. Because in one of the more well-off counties in New York, no one should have to choose between paying rent and feeding their family.
