Tribute to a Visionary: The Life of Mrs. Marie Major
It is with profound sorrow and joy that we announce the passing of our beloved founder and mother of Grace Missions-Chez Moi. She passed peacefully in her sleep on Christmas night. Mrs. Marie was a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to unwavering faith, vision, and dedication.

A Woman of Faith and Vision
What can be said about this Great Woman of God? She was a woman with vision, fortitude, wisdom, and strength. Her life was a vivid illustration of what it means to hear God’s voice and to obey it wholeheartedly. Her legacy is one of transformation, not just in her own life but in the lives of countless others.

Journey from Haiti to the United States
At the tender age of 32, Mrs. Marie left her native Haiti to spend three years studying at a Bible College in Jamaica. Afterward. she moved to the United States to start a new chapter, enrolling at Florida Bible College, where she laid the foundations for a life dedicated to service. Her journey continued as she became a U.S. citizen and worked as an in-home caregiver for an elderly couple.

A Turning Point: The Call to Serve
In 1990, at the age of 53, Mrs. Marie faced a pivotal moment in her life. The passing of the couple she cared for left her with an unexpected inheritance—a house and cars. Unsure of her next steps, she returned to Haiti, where she was confronted with the pressing needs of her people. It was then that she heard a divine call to return to Haiti to build a school and care for orphans.

In her own words, she humorously recounted her initial reluctance: "There are two things wrong with your plan, Jesus. First, I don’t want to go back to Haiti and live in a concrete house with a dirt floor and eat beans and rice every day. Secondly, building an orphanage means taking care of children, and I don’t even like children." Despite these reservations, she answered the call.

Building a Legacy: Marie’s House of Grace
Mrs. Marie made the courageous decision to sell her inheritance and return to Haiti. There, she founded Marie’s House of Grace, an orphanage dedicated to caring for abandoned and orphaned girls. Her selfless dedication transformed the lives of countless children, providing them with love, education, and hope for the future.

Transition and Continuation
Mrs. Marie managed what is now known as Grace Missions-Chez Moi until her health began to decline. Her daughter, Delette Legrand, graciously took over as executive director, ensuring that her mother’s vision and work would continue to flourish.

A Lasting Impact
Mrs. Marie’s life was a beacon of hope and inspiration. Her journey from Haiti to the United States and back again was marked by resilience and faith. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched and in the ongoing work of Grace Missions-Chez Moi. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the joy and transformation she brought to the world.
