Mohamed and his family of six arrived in Georgia in December 2024. ❤️

Recently, Mohamed left us not one, but two beautiful voice messages—because, as he said, one simply wasn’t enough to express how much Ethaar’s work has meant to him, his family, and so many other refugee families.

His words truly touched our hearts. Moments like this are a powerful reminder that behind every case, every home visit, every resource we provide, and every family we walk alongside is a person who simply wants the opportunity to build a safe, stable and independent life.

This is why we do what we do.
To walk alongside families with dignity, compassion and care and to remind them that they are not alone.

During our October 3rd Suhbah session, the girls were divided into age groups for engaging, discussion-based talks exploring key concepts of faith. After a break for prayer, everyone came together for a creative Arabic calligraphy painting activity! 🎨

The girls decorated their canvases with beautiful Arabic words like Alhamdulillah and Mashallah surrounded by colorful flowers, sunsets, and starry skies. With volunteers offering guidance and the girls helping one another, it was a wonderful afternoon of learning, creativity, connection, and sisterhood! 💕

💙 A HUGE shout-out to ilmacademy 9th and 10th graders! 💙

What do you do with a couple of free periods each week? These amazing students decided to use theirs to give back to the community!

Instead of spending that time relaxing or playing games, they rolled up their sleeves to support Ethaar by packing hygiene bags for refugee and underserved families in our community.

These Ethaar-sponsored bags contain essential hygiene items and are kept on hand so we can provide them to families who visit our office for case management and are experiencing hardship. Each bag costs approximately $60 to sponsor.

Together, these incredible students packed 100 hygiene bags and even helped load them into our van! That’s $6,000 worth of essential supplies ready to reach families who need them.

We are so proud of these young people for recognizing that even small acts of service can make a meaningful difference. Their willingness to give their time and energy reminds us that our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are making an impact today!

This past weekend, Ethaar proudly sponsored Sisters United in Human Service’s (SUIHS) Annual Health Conference, themed “With Difficulty Comes Relief.” The conference featured digital literacy education for seniors, workshops for all ages on stress, mental health, and the connection between body and spirit, opportunities to share community resources, as well as meaningful dialogue with providers.

Since 1998, SUIHS has served Atlanta’s unhoused and underserved communities through weekly meal services, winter coat distributions, youth development, and educational awards. Ethaar’s sponsorship reflects our commitment to serving families across Georgia and bringing communities of all backgrounds together in goodness.

Ethaar was also honored with the Practitioner of Excellence Award for Advocacy of Service at Sunday’s Taleem Program at Masjid Al-Mu’minun in Atlanta, in recognition of our “invaluable service to refugees, immigrants, individuals and families facing hardship.”

Girls Rising Strong: Building Bravery, Belonging & Self-Confidence!

Our GRS girls have been exploring what it means to be brave, embrace their individuality, and build a positive relationship with themselves!

In our recent session, the girls explored two important themes:

True Belonging: Understanding the difference between fitting in and truly belonging—and learning that we don’t have to change who we are to be accepted.

Self-Acceptance: Reflecting on how beauty standards influence the way we see ourselves and celebrating our bodies, individuality, and unique qualities.

Bravery: Finding the courage to be ourselves, even when we feel pressure to fit in or meet others’ expectations.

✨ Positive Self-Talk: Learning how our inner voice shapes our mindset and practicing how to turn negative thoughts like “I can’t do this” into encouraging ones like “I can try my best!”

The girls are discovering that the way we speak to ourselves matters—and that kindness toward ourselves can help us grow in confidence and resilience.

Small conversations can open the door to meaningful connections and help our girls grow into brave, confident young women who embrace who they are. 💕

🌱 Welcoming Our Newest Partner: Fresh Harvest!

We’re so excited to welcome Fresh Harvest as Ethaar’s newest partner! What immediately drew us to them is how closely their values align with ours — a belief that when we invest in people and community, everyone benefits.

Fresh Harvest works closely with small, family-owned organic farms, helping farmers grow thoughtfully and sustainably while reducing food waste by harvesting only what is needed. Produce that doesn’t meet their quality standards is composted and returned to the soil, creating a beautiful cycle of nourishment and sustainability. 🌱

But what we love most is their commitment to people.

Located in Clarkston, Fresh Harvest has built a team where approximately 75% of employees are refugees, with many growing into leadership and management roles. Dozens of their employees have also gone from refugee status to becoming American citizens. Through their Share the Harvest program, customers help make fresh produce more accessible to families in the community.

At Ethaar, we believe in building partnerships that go beyond a transaction — partnerships rooted in dignity, opportunity, and strengthening our community together.

Women Behind the Wheel is an Ethaar program designed to help refugee and underserved women gain greater independence through access to driver’s education and driving lessons. By reducing transportation barriers, the program helps women get to work, school, medical appointments, and essential services while building confidence and self-reliance.

One woman’s journey through the program is a beautiful example of how something as simple as learning to drive can open the door to greater independence, opportunity, and dignity.
