Our volunteers impact the lives of children with disabilities in Jamaica. Our Three Prong Approach:

1. Follow up visits occur between Family Support trips.

The mission of Skilled Connections in Jamaica is to enhance the daily lives of families of children with disabilities through building awareness, providing professional training, and connecting families with the therapeutic professionals they need. Each year our organization addresses the BARRIERS to special education services with a 3 prong system. We aim to multiply our impact by collaborating w

ith organizations who ALREADY provide free services. This collaboration increases the support to professionals and the support directly to families. Annual Family Support Trips - Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapist travel to Jamaica to provide screenings and parent training to families of children with disabilities. These trips occur 3 times a year: March, June, and September.

2.Virtual Follow-Up Visits - Our volunteers follow up with families on their progress and provide training and strategies to address their needs. Teacher Trainings - Our Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists create in-person and virtual training for professionals working in early intervention on the island. Our training focuses on building awareness, supporting families, and enhancing the skills of these amazing professionals. Through collaboration with the Ministry of Education, students in teachers colleges across the island will have access to our seminars. These trainings occur 3 times a year: March, June, and September.

“Play is the work of the child”. We prioritize PLAY on our Skilled Connections Inc. trips. These guys met for the first time in the ball pit during our small play groups last week. Through play they made connections, took turns,communicated, and experienced joy! Thanks to our amazing volunteers for making this possible.

Currently there are only 3 pediatric Occupational Therapists in Jamaica. This means families face extensive hurdles to get therapy including lengthy waiting lists and long drives. This July we travel to Westmorland,Jamaica to bring SLPs and OTs to provide family support services. Donate today to support our July 2025 trip.
