Recently, we had the pleasure of having our YouthBuild alumni Johnny surprise us with a visit. Such a full circle moment as Johnny returns, not as a student, but as a GVCC corpsmember working on our school site lawns! This is a proud moment for us because it is proof that the work ethic you build at YouthBuild follows you everywhere you go. This can be you! When Fabian joined YouthBuild, he was determined to create a better future for himself. Through our hands-on construction training, academic support, and career readiness services, he gained the skills and confidence needed to take the next step. He completed his academics, earned his driver’s license, and received support throughout the transition process.

Just a few months after graduating, Fabian was indentured into the NorCal Carpenters Union at only 18 years old and is now building a successful career in the construction industry.

This year was filled with lots of learning, personal development, and love flourishing amongst newly formed friendships. We never know who or what will walk in through the door at the start of each year, but we always know that a new family always comes out on the other side.

National Apprenticeship Week at YouthBuild San Joaquin! 👷🏽‍♀️👷🏽

Participants created a colorful poster to show their apprenticeship pride and we wrapped up our attendance challenge by presenting the winner with a construction tool bucket. Here’s to celebrating all apprentices and the impact they make around the world. 🌍 🧰🛠️ 🦺 💪🏼

🎉 Congratulations to alumni Mario (YouthBuild San Joaquin), Jose (YouthBuild Lake County), Paige (YouthBuild North Shore CDC), and Esmeralda (OWTC YouthBuild) for their wonderful panel presentation at this week's conference: “Building Futures Together: YouthBuild’s Approach to Youth-Centered Pre-Apprenticeship and Employer-Aligned Pathways.

The youth panelists described their experiences in their programs and specific ways they were successfully prepared for their diverse careers, including manufacturing coordinator, aquarium lab tech, graphic designer, construction foreman.

Shoutout to YouthBuild Global staff Antonio McKoy and Kate Henneberry for leading this session, which included an introduction to YouthBuild, positive youth development, and our approach to durable workforce pathways.

Our YouthBuild students welcomed a new friend this Earth day. Meet John Lemon, our new lemon tree! Our Youth Advisory Council voted on honoring Earth day by building a planter box, planting a tree, and giving it a special name. We can’t wait to see John Lemon and our students flourish together as we get ready to wrap up the 2025-26 school year. 🍋🌳🌎
