Richard Beal is a true Reentry community leader in San Francisco and the whole Bay Area who seen it all in his 31 years of sobriety and working with formerly incarcerated communities. We ran into Richard at this year’s San Francisco Reentry Conference where we hosted expungement services and connected with various reentry providers from around the Bay Area.

“You are able to connect to employment, housing, mental health, substance abuse [support], all kinds of different resources which is crucial for people coming out of incarceration.”

It was great seeing and connecting with community leaders and partners from the great city of Oakland and holding space for the critical shared safety conversations that we all play a role in.

California is spending more than ever on corrections. New data shows that Los Angeles County has spent close to $480 million in the past 7 years to end legal cases involving LAPD.

Couple that with the fact that it costs the state almost $130,000 each year to incarcerate one person on average. Thats taxpayer dollars locked into an outdated system that treats prisms as the default to every societal issue.

We must continue the work to invest in smart safety programs that have long been underfunded: mental health care, addiction treatment, victims services, stable housing, gainful employment programs.

Stop wasting BILLIONS in taxpayer dollars when true public safety comes from investing in prevention, treatment, and victim support.

❤️‍🩹About 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men experience physical domestic violence in their lifetimes.

✅ Resources: Free, confidential help is available 24/7 through the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or by texting “START” to 88788.

California Residents can contact the California Victim Compensation Board for financial help with relocation, medical care, and mental health services.
