The Pledge of Allegiance was first recited in public schools on October 12, 1892, during nationwide celebrations for the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas. Over 12 million schoolchildren recited the pledge for the first time on that day.

Takeaways Clay Cemetary Cleanup....
Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025 a very rewarding day. American Legion Post 449 and VFW Post 1304 combined with many community members to restore and reset markers and monuments at Clay Cemetary located just north of Loran, Illinois.

Giving back to our local communities is such an honor to both VFW and American Legion posts. participants included: American Legion: Jerry Hayes, Bill Signer, Gary Stutevant, Bob Heuerman, and Brian Robinson; VFW: Tim Stocks; and many unnamed community members.❤️

Joint meeting with American Legion Post 449, Stockton.....

Comrades,

Had a very good meeting with American Legion members Jerry Hayes and Post Adjutant Brian. at the Corner Tap, Stockton. We all agreed both organizations could provide better services to the community and our members if we would work cooperatively on events. We also noted it may be some time before equal trust among all members is reached.

Our first step would be to share event schedules where volunteer cooperation is welcomed, pending leadership agreement.

This is a small step but nonetheless an important one.
