Valentine’s Day is an old tradition from the Roman Empire. On February 14, Valentine’s Day celebrates the Queen of Roman gods and goddesses – Juno, the Goddess of Women and Marriage. In Italy, Valentine’s Day is known as La Festa Degli Innamorati.

The Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics run Feb 6–22, marking the first-ever dual-city Olympic Games. Nearly 2,900 athletes will compete across Italy, from Milan to the Dolomites, with events spread over 8,500 square miles.

🎶 Andrea Bocelli will headline the opening ceremony at Milan’s San Siro Stadium, joined by Mariah Carey.
👗 Team Italy will wear uniforms designed by Giorgio Armani.
🔥 The Olympic Flame will travel 7,500 miles, stopping in all 20 Italian regions.
🏛️ The Games close at the historic Arena di Verona.

The very first Winter Olympic games were held in Italy in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956. Its return 70 years later will be the fourth time Italy has hosted the Olympics. They have previously hosted two Winter Games: Cortina (1956) and Torino (2006); and one Summer Olympic Game: Rome (1960)

The holiday classic "It's a Wonderful Life" was financed in part by A.P. Giannini, founder of the Bank of Italy, and directed by Italian-American Frank Capra. As we learned in the documentary A Little Fellow: The Legacy of A.P. Giannini, George Bailey was loosely based on Giannini's life as a humble, generous banker who devoted himself to helping everyday people and businesses. Buon Natale!
