🕊️ In Loving Memory of Bishop Dwight Williams 🕊️

It is with a heavy heart that we honor the life and legacy of our beloved community leader, Bishop Dwight Williams.

Bishop Williams worked alongside us as a valued partner of the Reinvent South Stockton Coalition’s Housing Justice Coalition, where he stood with residents of South Stockton and beyond in the pursuit of housing justice, stronger families, and healthier communities.

His leadership extended far beyond any single organization or initiative. Bishop Williams was a man of faith, a strong advocate for family values, and a leader deeply committed to God and to serving His people. As a Pastor, Visionary, and Community Leader, he understood that ministry did not stop at the doors of the church—it extended into the neighborhoods, homes, and lives of the people he was called to serve.

His presence, advocacy, wisdom, and commitment to community will surely be missed.

During this difficult time, we lift up his beloved wife, First Lady Phyllis Williams, his family, his congregation, and the entire New Genesis Housing Development Team. May God surround each of you with comfort, strength, and peace as you grieve this tremendous loss and continue the work and vision Bishop Williams so faithfully carried.

May his seeds of service continue to grow in the community he loved, and may his legacy live through every family, resident, and leader whose life he touched.

Rest well, Bishop Dwight Williams. Your work, your faith, and your service will not be forgotten.

Today, we honor Juneteenth—not simply as a date in history, but as a living reminder of humanity's enduring pursuit of freedom.

At The People’s Empowerment Center, we celebrate Juneteenth because freedom matters. Truth matters. Memory matters.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, enslaved Black Americans in Texas finally learned they were free. Juneteenth stands as a reminder that justice delayed is justice denied, and that freedom is not truly freedom until it reaches everyone.

While Juneteenth commemorates the liberation of Black Americans from chattel slavery, its message speaks to all people. Throughout human history, people of every race, nation, faith, and culture have fought against oppression, exploitation, colonization, trafficking, forced labor, and systems designed to diminish human dignity. Juneteenth invites us to remember that the struggle for freedom is a universal human story.

As conversations continue about whether Juneteenth should be celebrated, The People’s Empowerment Center remains clear in our position: We will continue to honor this sacred day.

We do not celebrate Juneteenth to divide people. We celebrate it to tell the truth.

We celebrate because our ancestors survived unimaginable hardship and still built families, communities, institutions, businesses, churches, movements, and legacies that continue to shape this nation today.

We celebrate because freedom is never guaranteed.

We celebrate because every generation has a responsibility to protect and expand liberty for those who come after us.

Today, we encourage our community to honor Juneteenth by:

• Learning the history and sharing it with younger generations.
• Supporting Black-owned businesses and community organizations.
• Attending cultural celebrations and educational events.
• Engaging in acts of service that uplift others.
• Reflecting on the freedoms we enjoy and the freedoms still denied to many around the world.
• Honoring the ancestors whose courage, sacrifice, and resilience made our opportunities possible.

At The People’s Empowerment Center, our commitment extends beyond one day.

We will continue to empower Black Americans and members of the African Diaspora through leadership development, economic opportunity, trauma-informed healing, civic engagement, education, advocacy, and community empowerment.

We will continue to fight for systems that recognize the dignity, worth, and humanity of every person.

We will continue to build bridges across communities while never abandoning the truth of our history.

And we will continue to remind future generations that freedom is not merely inherited—it must be protected, nurtured, and expanded.

Today, we celebrate freedom.
Today, we honor our ancestors.
Today, we recommit ourselves to justice.

The People’s Empowerment Center is proud to join our community partners, Sangre Car Club, for their 5th Annual Easter Egg Hunt in Stockton!

We will be out there bringing resources, community support, and games for families, so come out, bring the kids, and enjoy a beautiful day in the park with us and our community.

This is what community is about — showing up for one another, supporting our families, and creating safe, joyful spaces for our children to grow and thrive.

A Heartfelt Thank You from The People's Empowerment Center!

We are deeply honored and humbled to receive the 2026 Organization of The Year Award recieved at the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, presented by The Ministers and Community United, Inc.

This year's theme: "Mission Possible II: Building Community United in a Nation of Non-Violent Way".
This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our entire team and the vibrant community we serve.

We extend our deepest gratitude to several key partners and leaders who have supported us on this journey.

Thank you to California's Congressional 9th District Congressman Josh Harder, State of California 13th District Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom, San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, District 1 representative Mario Gardea and District 2 representative Paul Canepa, for your steadfast encouragement and support.

We also appreciate the City of Stockton Representatives Mayor Christina Fugazi and Councilmember Michael Blower for being in attendance and supporting with recognitions from the City of Stockton.

This award is not just a milestone for The People's Empowerment Center—it is a celebration of the collective spirit of our community.
