Alternatives to Violence Project - Stockton

Alternatives to Violence Project is a holistic workshop that builds community for the goal of promoting peace. It is in over 25 CA prisons, 40 states, and 50 countries. It is experiential, so people aren't just sitting and taking notes- they get up and have fun in interactive exercises and games that develop communication skills, speaking to a group, teamwork, creative conflict resolution, and more. The core of the program is based in transforming power- the fact that each of us has the capacity to change the energy in a situation, potentially to alleviate conflict. The feedback is always positive from participants. Stockton has monthly community workshops and we coordinate monthly workshops in Mule Creek Prison. You can get involved and volunteer, too! Be the change you want to see in the world! The third workshop you take in a series is a Training for Facilitators workshop. After completing that one, you can work on a team to run workshops in the community or prison, and you can even help get the workshops out in other areas, such as with staff from other organizations, or with youth.
