Stockton showed up! This past Saturday, Stockton, Skate, Bike and Roll brought together youth, families, and community partners for a day rooted in movement, creativity, and connection.

From the skate demos with Richard Valle and friends, to the art, music by DJ Kevin Romar, and youth stepping onto boards for the first time, the space was alive with energy and possibility.

We’re grateful to every young person who participated, every family who came out, and every partner, volunteer, and organization who helped make this day possible. Events like this remind us what it looks like when community invests in youth, creating spaces that are not only safe, but full of expression, joy, and opportunity.

Thank you for being part of it. Stockton continues to lead with heart.

On March 21, youth and All Children Thrive California coaches came together for the ACT Stockton In-Person Design Team Meeting to discuss park equity, community safety, and what South Stockton parks need to better serve local families.

The conversation centered on the need for safe, usable green spaces, repairs to park amenities, and more equitable investment in neighborhoods that have experienced long-standing disinvestment. Youth also helped identify priorities they want to elevate with elected officials as part of shaping real, community-driven change.

This meeting and training created space for youth participants to share their lived experiences, reflect on which parks feel safe or neglected, and identify the improvements that matter most to their communities.

We would like to thank the ACT team for joining us and for providing our youth with this training and discussion.

Not every move happens on the board. Some change your life.

Yesterday, we hosted our bi-weekly Make Every Move Count INC. Community Chess Day, where young people come together to think critically, build strategy, and connect through challenge.

This gathering isn’t just about chess. It’s a space to slow down, think ahead, and grow alongside your community.

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Community Resiliency Hub, 306 E Main Street, Suite 211. All ages and skill levels are welcome, especially beginners.

Instruction is always available, and food is provided.

Through the Elevate Youth CA grant, we’re creating a safe and welcoming space for underrepresented BIPOC youth and young people from South Stockton, ages 14 to 26, to build leadership skills and use chess as a tool for strategy, planning, and navigating life’s challenges.

Come make your next move with us.

“History isn't something you look back at and say it was inevitable. It happens because people make decisions that are sometimes very impulsive and of the moment, but those moments are cumulative realities.” — Marsha P. Johnson

Marsha P. Johnson was a Black transgender activist, organizer, and cultural icon whose courage and advocacy helped ignite and sustain the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. A central figure in the 1969 Stonewall uprising, she co-founded STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), creating housing and support for unhoused LGBTQ+ youth in New York City.

Her life reminds us that history is shaped by brave, everyday decisions, especially by those who refuse to be erased.

This Black History Month, we honor Marsha’s legacy of resilience, radical love, and community care. Black history includes the stories of Black LGBTQ+ leaders whose impact continues to shape justice movements today.

On February 14, 2026 – The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) held its monthly meeting. This session focused on electing board officers, including president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and parliamentarian.

Following the elections, Peter Elias, our Youth Project Coordinator, shared ideas for organizing fundraising efforts to establish a dedicated YAC fund. This fund would allow the council to independently support and lead future YAC initiatives.

The group also discussed the possibility of hosting a youth-led candidate debate or youth-led town hall, focusing on what these events could look like and how they could be structured. This meeting also served as a precursor to our All Children Thrive government-focused design team work, which centers on residential issues, parks activation, and, in some cases, specialized sectors.

If you, or any youth you know, are interested in advocating and changing the landscape of Stockton policies, sign up and register through our Linktree in our bio. Join us for our next Youth Advisory Council meeting, held every second Saturday of the month. This is a youth-centered space to speak up, build power, and connect with other youth leaders.

“There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.”
― Howard Thurman

About Howard Thurman: Howard Thurman (1899–1981) was a theologian, philosopher, educator, and civil rights leader whose spiritual and intellectual work deeply influenced the American freedom movement. He was the first Black dean of a predominantly white university chapel at Boston University and co-founded the Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco, one of the first intentionally in*******al, interfaith congregations in the United States.

Black History Month is a reminder that history is not behind us, it is living, breathing, and shaping the present. Dr. Howard Thurman challenged us to listen for the genuine within ourselves, to refuse the strings that others try to pull, and to move through the world guided by purpose and integrity.

Howard Thurman's words remain urgent today. In a time when voices are often drowned out or redirected, honoring Black history means honoring truth, self-determination, leadership, and the courage to live authentically.

We celebrate the thinkers, organizers, educators, faith leaders, artists, and everyday community members who continue this legacy, not just this month, but every day.
