Important announcement regarding our Service Fellows program:
With heavy hearts, we must share that due to significant cuts to AmeriCorps funding our ability to place Service Fellow with local non-profits to serve the community has been paused indefinitely.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has directed AmeriCorps to cut $400 million in grants—over 40% of their annual budget—leaving many community-focused organizations like ours in uncertainty.
As an organization (SSC) we remain committed to supporting Service Fellows here in Stockton through our programming and events.
Since 2019, Service Fellows have been vital to Stockton in essential ways—serving as tutors, coaches, mentors, youth leaders, and more. Their contributions have included providing essential academic support to students, strengthening local food banks that thousands of residents rely on daily, and more. This pause is not just about jobs—it’s about the critical services our community needs.
We’re working closely with the State of California to understand the paths forward and we will explore all possible options to maintain these essential services.
To our Stockton community: We remain committed to you. We’re exploring every avenue to continue providing the resources and support you deserve. We are fighting to ensure that this is a pause, not an end.
If you believe in the importance of service programs in communities like ours, please contact your congressional representatives. If you’re a local employer who has open roles (temporary, short-term, or long-term) please reach out to Richley Gatewood at [email protected]. Service Fellows are incredible leaders who will add capacity and heart to any organization or business they work with. Together, we can ensure Stockton continues to receive the support it needs.
