Our deepest condolences go out to our brothers and sisters at Durand Fire and to all Chris’ family and friends. Rest easy brother.

With profound and heartfelt sadness, we have to announce the passing of Firefighter Chris J. Bates. Chris joined the Durand Fire Department in 2007, served as a Lieutenant and Training Officer on the department and was a current Senior Member. Chris was an amazing firefighter and US Marine Veteran. More importantly he was a brilliant husband, father and grandfather to his family. Rest easy brother, we’ll take the watch from here. Godspeed Chris Bates.

Yesterday's barn fire was an outstanding example of using and coordinating large scale mutual aid by Durand Fire Department. Good teamwork allowed fire fighters to contain and extinguish this massive fire and we're glad to be part of that effort. Our thoughts are with the Anderson family in their recovery from the fire.

Elevated Fire Hazard Saturday. The US National Weather Service Twin Cities Minnesota issued a warning for Pierce and Pepin Counties for increased risk of wildfires due to low humidity, high winds, and dry fuels. Please be cautious when these conditions are present and avoid burning.

The seasonal general burning ban is effect in our district from now until snow cover: If you want to burn large piles or areas of material you must get permission from your municipal Chairperson and notify county sheriff/dispatch. Cooking fires and camp fires are allowed but again be careful when fire danger is high.
