A heated town meeting in Chouteau ended with 11 firefighters turning in their equipment and resigning, leaving the town without most of its fire department.

The firefighters walked out Tuesday night in support of Fire Chief Amber Williams, who also resigned amid ongoing tensions with town leadership. Chouteau is now left with one full-time firefighter and five volunteers and will rely on help from neighboring departments to respond to emergencies.

Yesterday evening our department had the honor of hosting the Camp Fierce volunteers for dinner. We are grateful for the incredible impact these volunteers make in the lives of these young ladies who attend camp. They encourage, build confidence and empower these young women as well as remind them that they are capable of great things. 🚒🔥

Camp Fierce is a nonprofit female firefighter camp for girls 16 and up that empowers young women, builds confidence, and introduces them to the fire service.
