Recovery doesn't get "safer" just because time passes. A new Harvard study found that people relapse an average of five times before achieving lasting sobriety — and warning signs can show up even after years of stability.

Researchers identified four areas to watch:
🔹 Biological — changes in sleep, appetite, or pain
🔹 Psychological — anxiety, boredom, stress
🔹 Social — isolation, or spending time around high-risk people or environments
🔹 Support systems — stepping back from meetings, counseling, or medication

One of the most common signs? When recovery quietly stops being the priority — not dramatically, just gradually getting pushed down the list.

The takeaway: staying aware isn't just for the early days. It's a lifelong practice — and one no one should have to do alone.

For one Silver Sobriety client — self-employed for decades, a husband, a father, a grandfather — the wake-up call came after a hard fall at a family cabin.
