On June 7th, more than 30 volunteers joined Sustainable Stillwater MN at Lumberjack Landing Park to plant nearly 200 native trees and shrubs that will provide food, shelter, and nesting habitat for birds and wildlife for years to come. 🌳🐦

This incredible community effort supports biodiversity, strengthens habitat along the St. Croix flyway, and helps advance Stillwater's Bird City goals.

🌀️ Air Quality Alert for Tuesday, June 9, 2026 - The MPCA has issued an air quality alert for the Twin Cities and central Minnesota due to elevated ozone levels. Air quality is expected to reach the Orange AQI category (unhealthy for sensitive groups) from noon to 9 p.m. https://www.pca.state.mn.us/air-water-land-climate/air-quality-forecast

If you have asthma, COPD, or other breathing conditions, or if you're planning strenuous outdoor activities, consider limiting your time outside and taking it easy during the afternoon hours.

πŸ’š Help reduce ozone pollution by combining trips, carpooling, avoiding backyard fires, and postponing use of gas-powered lawn equipment when possible.

At Sustainable Stillwater MN, we care about the health of our community and environment, and cleaner air is an important part of creating a more sustainable and resilient future for everyone.

To celebrate World Environment Day, five amazing volunteers joined together for a lunchtime Trash Dash and removed approximately 11 pounds of litter and two pints of cigarette butts from our community. Along the way, we found everything from a fishing lure and Burt’s Bees lip balm to a pair of socksβ€”all reminders that even small pieces of litter add up.

Thank you to everyone who spent part of their day helping create a cleaner, healthier Stillwater. Every piece of trash removed makes a difference! πŸ’š

Whether you manage a building or live in one, there are clear tools and programs to help you get started:
βœ” Improve recycling access in your building
βœ” Set up food scraps collection
βœ” Handle move-in/move-out waste more efficiently

🚲 More than 60 young riders joined us at this year's Youth Bike Safety Rodeo to practice essential biking skills, build confidence, and have fun on two wheels. From quick stops and sharp turns to safely navigating intersections, participants learned valuable lessons that will help them ride safely for years to come.

Tiny talons, fluffy feathers, and some very proud (and vocal!) falcon parents! πŸ¦… A few Bird City Stillwater volunteers recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in the annual Peregrine Falcon Banding event at the Allen S. King Plant in Oak Park Heights. This year's nest produced three healthy male chicks, giving volunteers a front-row seat to one of Minnesota's most inspiring wildlife conservation success stories.

Since becoming the first power plant in the world to host a peregrine falcon nest box in 1989, the Allen S. King Plant has helped produce 82 wild peregrine falcons. We're grateful to Xcel Energy, the Raptor Resource Program, and our dedicated volunteers for making experiences like this possible.

And yesβ€”the baby falcon photos are every bit as cute as you'd hope. β€οΈπŸ¦…
