The Facts:
-Family members (fathers, stepfathers, uncles, older siblings, etc) commit 47% of all reported sexual assaults against children in the child's home. (Due to factors such as fear and guilt, children are much less likely to report that they have been sexually assaulted by a family member. Surveys by adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse report a much higher percentage of abuse by family members)
-4% of sexual assaults against children are by strangers
-44% of all sexual assault victims are children
-98% of males who rape boys are heterosexual
-Long term effects of child sexual abuse include; fear, anxiety, depression, anger, hostility, inappropriate sexual behavior, poor self esteem, tendency toward substance abuse, and difficulty with close relationships.
-The typical sex offender molests an average of 117 children, most of who do not report the offense.
