✨Our next student spotlight is Max Marwin!✨

Name : Max Marwin

Q: Tell us about your research in one or two sentences.
A: I study how black bears influence mountain lion foraging in northern New Mexico. Specifically, how black bear kleptoparasitism of kills affects mountain lion kill rates and seasonal habitat selection.

Q: What has been your favorite part of your project so far?
A: My favorite part has been to finally uncover the story of mountain lion and black bear interactions hidden within millions of images, thousands of GPS locations, and hundreds of field observations.

Q: Why are you passionate about this field?
A: I’m passionate about wildlife science because it combines my fascination with the natural world with the opportunity to better understand and conserve wildlife for the future.

Q: Tell us about your research in one or two sentences.
A: My research uses remote sensing and field data to study forest structure and function across different spatial scales.

Q: What has been your favorite part of your project so far?
A: My favorite part has been combining data from different remote sensing technologies to reveal patterns that cannot be observed from the ground alone.

Q: Why are you passionate about this field?
A: Forests play a critical role in human well-being. I am passionate about using technology and data science to improve our understanding of forests and help inform sustainable management decisions for the future.

Name : Ethan Hood

Q: Tell us about your research in one or two sentences.
A: My research investigates the movement patterns and genetics of Alligator Gar to better understand population connectivity within the Red River.

Q: What has been your favorite part of your project so far?
A: My favorite part of my project so far has been taking airboats to remote stretches of the river in pursuit of giant fish. It's truly an adrenaline rush I crave while back in the office.

Q: Why are you passionate about this field?
A: Since beginning my path in fisheries, I have been drawn to fishes of conservation importance. I am passionate about fisheries ecology because I want to help preserve the diverse ecology fish have by better understanding them.
