Today your Eureka Volunteers along with Eureka EMS held an in house training session with the topic of vehicle accident with rescue. The group started off by discussing:
Apparatus placement
Scene size up checking for hazards (leaking fluids and electrical hazards)
Calling for additional resources if necessary
Establishing Command
Crews then did two scenarios in which the crews worked together to get the patient out of the vehicle while using both battery operated tools as well as hydraulic tools along with hand tools. We had a mix of inexperienced crews that were mentored by experienced crews.
During our rehab breaks we discussed what went good as well as what we can do to improve. The ultimate goal is for everyone to work safely and efficiently as well as achieving rapid extrication to maximize a more positive outcome for the patient (Golden Hour).
It was a great day of training and learning!
We would like to give a shout out to Barron Shaw who graciously donated the vehicle.
Also thank you Kayla Winters for the pictures.
