Today is Wednesday!

Every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm is when our YAC meets. What's the YAC you ask? It is the youth led group that got this crazy project started just a few short years ago!

One of the core missions of SKY is to provide opportunities for youth to have a say in how their community looks and functions, and here at the teen center they get to do just that. From deciding on important matters like youth codes of conduct, to what projects they will do (like our upcoming Mural project!) and even what field trips they get to go on, it is a place where kids truly have a voice.

Do you have a teen who has ideas on what they want to see in Stevenson? Send them down to check out the YAC and apply to join! The only way youth can be a meaningful part of our community is if they are given the opportunities to share their voice and put their dreams in action. SKY is proud to be one of those places.

One Prevention Alliance is funded by a Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI). In the CPWI model, Student Assistant Professionals (SAPs) are placed in secondary schools and work alongside the local community coalition to help connect schools, students, families, and community prevention efforts. They can support coalition activities by sharing student perspectives, helping with prevention education and outreach, assisting with events and campaigns, and connecting peers with appropriate resources.

This month, with a focus on su***de prevention, SAPs may help the coalition by:

- Promoting awareness of su***de-prevention resources and protective factors.
- Helping share age-appropriate prevention messages with students and families.
- Supporting school or community activities that encourage connection, belonging, and help-seeking.
- Bringing student voice and observations to the coalition’s prevention planning.
- Helping connect students who need support with trusted adults and appropriate school/community resources.

The key idea is that SAPs are a bridge between students and the broader CPWI coalition. They help make prevention efforts more relevant and accessible to young people while supporting the coalition’s larger community-level prevention goals. We are grateful that our Skamania County Opioid Abatement funds support keeps a SAP in our school district!

One Prevention Alliance is more than halfway through our Guiding Good Choices series for parents—and we’re having a great time!

The meals have been delicious, but the benefits don’t stop there. When we offer child care, we don’t simply put kids in a room with a video. We provide meaningful enrichment and activities designed just for them.

This week, the kids headed to the playground for some fun STEM challenges, thanks to Rain & Shine Learning! 🧪🌱🔎
